I was wondering about pizza the other day! I ordered several pizzas which totalled $50 (guests in town) and tipped $10. The driver seemed excited and it made me wonder what the norm is. Does the 20% apply? No idea! But was nice to see his reaction so it was worth it either way

I've never been charged a delivery fee! Maybe this is regional?

I usually tip $4-5 for food delivery. Less for grocery delivery--maybe $2-3.

What's the point of charging a delivery fee if it doesn't go to the driver? I think they make at least minimum wage though as they aren't classified as a server/bartender. I very rarely have anything delivered but I guess I do about 10% as they are just delivering the food to my house and aren't actually being my server (taking my order, getting me a beverage, etc.)

of course it has started pouring so i'm expecting to have to tip the grocery delivery guy more now! haha. oh well. i don't have to carry the groceries up & that brings me great joy (four flights of stairs... yeah.) thank you guys for clarifying about the delivery fee for food! i have been tipping on top of it, but wasn't sure if that was something to take into account when deciding how much to tip!

We live 1 mile from the pizza place so if the weather is nice I tip like $3 for one pizza. If it is raining or snowing I tip &5

I usually tip $3-5 with pizzas, depending on how quickly they get here. If they come during the rain (which is often, sorry Florida), I tip $7-10. Our pizza orders are usually like $13.

Depends on how much food I'm ordering but not necessarily the total amount. So if I order a pie, I give him $3. Even 2 pies will be $3. But if I'm ordering a bunch for a party, I'll give more.

For groceries, it's definitely how heavy, how many boxes, etc. I start with $5 and move upwards from there.

I tip 20% (of the before tax/delivery fee amount)for pizza. For groceries, I tip $5 unless there are some major extenuating circumstances.

I tip on top of the delivery fee for pizza. For groceries, I consider the size of the order, the number of trips and the weather. I tip at least $5 and 10% if it's a large order on a bad day.

I've never had groceries delivered, but as for food, I tip on top of the delivery fee. It is my understanding that the driver does not get the delivery fee or if they do, they do not get paid an hourly wage on top of that.

two tipping questions i've had lately

1. how much do you tip when there's a delivery fee? say you order a pizza and it's $15 and there's a $2 delivery fee, how much do you tip?? $2 less than what you would have tipped or the same? does the driver get that fee or the business??

2. when having groceries delivered, how do you tip? per bag? a percentage of the total (that would be $$!!)? a set amount? by the number of trips the driver has to take bringing them in? (i've got a lot of stairs, so i feel like i should be generous, but you're already paying a delivery fee)

i'm good with most tips, but things involving answering the door are pretty new to me (i didn't have things delivered when i was home alone before)
