@Mamasig: unfortunately my LO won't take a cold bottle! Or rather, she will but she immediately pukes. Ah well-- room temp is still far better than having to warm it! I will try the blowing in face thing to get her to stop crying too.

We've found that singing gets her to stop crying when she starts the all out screaming (usually). We just belt out some random song and she gets this confused and slightly annoyed face... but she stops crying lol.

@tillma: yes! I got comments from the grandparents too! Cold milk won't hurt! It worked for us because I found it easier to make a pitcher of formula and have bottles ready to go.

@looch: I learned that one from my sister. The blowing in the face also worked for my boys to get them to stop crying. When they get super worked up with a red face and it looked like they hadn't taken a breath, I'll blow in their face and they take a deep breath and slow the crying down.

To give medication, get a syringe, fill it with the dose and prepare yourself mentally. Facing your child, hold their jaw so their mouth pops open, insert syringe into the corner of their mouth, back by their molar area. Squeeze in all the medication and blow in their face. They'll swallow the meds without spitting it out, because the act of blowing in their face causes them to swallow.

We also did room temp bottles! Easy peasy.

One formula trick that worked GREAT for us when E was sleeping next to the bed was to have water in one bottle, pre-measured, then formula measured out into a little formula container. Then you dump the formula in, shake, and go. no need to go to the kitchen for feedings. I'm always amazed when people go into the kitchen to make bottles

@ScarletBegonia: @Mae: E hated our exersaucer and LOVED our jumparoo! I used to put a firm couch pillow under the jumperoo so her feet would actually reach the ground.

@mamasig I second the unwarmed bottles! We did this too and it was a lifesaver not to have to warm a bottle when we had a screaming baby or we were out running around somewhere. MIL and FIL were VERY resistant to this and kept insisting it was bad. In the end, after seeing how convenient it was, they became converts too!

Best tip I received and used was don't warm the baby's bottle from the beginning. I never did and my boys will drink it at any temperature including straight out the fridge. I know people who still warm the milk for their 5 year old.

I also love the exesaucer and nose frida!

Make sure that LO's bottom is COMPLETELY dry before putting on any sort of cream for diaper rash. I was unaware of this, and the first time L had diaper rash I accidentally made it wayyyy worse by basically locking the moisture into his already irritated skin.

Minky sheets are awesome for transitioning from the RnP to the crib - they replicate the feeling of the fabric and that made a huge difference for our LO. Our crib soother was also magic for making that transition.

If LO is congested, put Baby Vicks on their feet and then put socks on them. We also love the Vicks humidifers that you can insert Vicks tabs in - made such a difference when L had his first cold! Along with the Nosefrida. I know it seems gross, but it works so well!

We have always taken pjs with us whenever we went out so that before we left we could just change her into pjs and then when she falls asleep in the car, we could just put her in bed when we get home.

Also, we keep a box or bin of extra stuff in our car all the time. Extra diapers and wipes and clothes, sweaters, hats, mitts (seasonal stuff), extra sippy cup, etc. We're notorious for leaving in the morning thinking we'll be back in an hour and not coming home until late at night...

That's all I have.

@Mae: my understanding is that they serve the same purpose? My son has tried out jumparoos and they keep him occupied for 10 or so minutes, but the exersaucer can keep him going for hours. The seat spins around in a circle and since I presume he has the memory of a gnat, it's like he's finding a new toy every time he rotates. You're only supposed to leave them in for 15 minutes but whatevs. Some babies from my mothers group definitely prefer the jumparoos though.

I am probably the only person on the face of the planet that didn't realize this but you have to pop the ruffles out on diapers. If they get tucked in you are losing your barrier to wetness and that puppy WILL leak. My lactation consultant let me in on this little gem after I complained to her how often LO was leaking out of his diapers. Seems so simple but I don't know!
