@sslm: Let me know how it goes!

@shellio: awesome to hear your LO slept well even during the day. That is one of my biggest worries.

@meganmp: good tip on waiting for LO to be really tired for bedtime, instead of just doing it at the regular time. I think I will try that. Hopefully he will get super exhausted, but it stays light out here so late, I wonder if he won't go to sleep until 9pm! We're going to Dosewallips!

@JennyD: sponge baths seem like the way to go. Cookie s'mores sounds yum!

@shellio: @birdofafeather: so so tempted to get the Lotus Travel Crib right now! Its even on sale on their website....

@MrsScottish: cool, sounds like you guys had a lot of fun! My friend who is coming with her 14 mo old is bring a travel high chair, so we can share that. I need to find some kind of large blanket/outdoor rug I think. Thanks for the tip on milk in the thermos!

My bro and sil are seasoned tenters with 3 kids. They get bucket baths- either a Rubbermaid or some sort of large bucket. They just fill it full of water heated on stove and bath them on site. It is so much easier then taking them to the showers. We went this spring and my 14 month old nephew had a blast every night. They use a pack and play for baby to sleep in, portable chair strapped to picnic table, and a large blanket on the ground for the baby to crawl, scoot etc.
best thing they have discovered which I will use next Summer with our baby is bringing a thermos. They heat the bottle of milk extra hot before bed and put it in the thermos. When baby wakes up at whatever time they have heated milk that they can just dump into a bottle and presto. They did the same thing when my nieces were still in formula, they just heated water and brought that in tent.

We just did sponge baths, face and hands.

If you're going to do s'mores, toast marshmallows and put them between soft chocolate chip cookies. Best idea ever!

We took my DS camping around 17 mos and he did great. Like PP's have said, just wipe off hands when possible. We put our travel crib in the tent and just used white noise, we put him down at his usual naptime and he slept great, then his usual bedtime and he did great with that too. And he isn't always a great sleeper. We put a couple of sleepers on him and then a super heavy sleep sack and he seemed warm enough. We brought sidewalk chalk and the kids loved drawing on rocks and trees, also bubbles were a big hit, and a bunch of beach toy- style plastic stuff like trucks, bucket, shovel/rake, etc. We also have a Ciao baby portable high chair which I HIGHLY recommend, we use it for all kinds of travel and a spare when people come over to our house. It is super handy for camping.

@birdofafeather: @Seattlemom: I LOVE our Lotus travel crib :)

You'll have a great time! I just went with two toddlers (18 months). I got two cots from Amazon, and those were great. If you can fit a pack and play in your tent, that would be fantastic too. For meal time, we had two little camping chairs that you can get at Outdoor Emporium in SoDo. my kids got disgustingly filthy, and we just washed hands until we got home. It did rain the whole weekend, so they were extra filthy, but whatever :-) At first, I tried to put him to bed at the regular time, and that was a big fat fail. We found that they did much better at that time when we just let them play until they were tired and then put him to bed. Schedules be damned, I guess. Where will you be camping? You're going to have an awesome time!

@birdofafeather: that would be great, thanks! I have a small outdoor blanket but maybe I need a bigger one, or a indoor/outdoor rug sounds good too!

LO slept great in her travel crib during the day even when it wasn't dark at all! we still brought white noise, a blanket, etc like her naps at home.

when LO was crawling, we bought an indoor/outdoor rug from home depot for her to crawl on at the campsite to minimize the twig eating/dirt coverage. we cleaned her in a bucket with water at night.

i did a blog post on camping with a baby/toddler! i'll wall you.

We brought our 14 month old camping this spring and it was great!

Bring an outdoor blanket so he can play on or you can always put him in a pack n play if you are busy cooking. We brought a portable booster seat and strapped it to the picnic bench so we had a place for her to sit and eat. The temp dropped (to the low 50s) at night and it got really cold so I was glad I brought her snow suit to sleep in. We just tried to clean her up before bed with wipes - she was covered in dirt but happy as a clam. Our site had lots of yelling kids and adults and she slept great without a fan or white noise. Have a great time!!

Hook me up with camping tips! I'm bringing a battery operated white noise machine and travel fan. I think LO will sleep pretty well at night (when its dark) but naps will be rough since he doesn't sleep well in his stroller anymore.

He doesn't walk yet, so do I just plan to let him crawl in the dirt for two days?? Do you try to wash up in the shower or just sponge bath until you get home?
