@MerryC: great idea for the covers over disposables! i would be sad if we had a ton of blowouts because we weren't CDing!

we are going to bring our travel crib for her to sleep and we were going to use it as a safe play space (she's not crawling yet, but can move around by rolling or scooting backward and who knows what two weeks will bring!) but i'm thinking the mat idea is good to keep the crib clean.

@Running Elley: ah! I'm getting so excited to go! we're staying in crane flats, which i've never done before, so there's that element of not knowing how the campsite is there!

i was debating on bringing the stroller or not... we love our carrier and i was thinking of ditching our stroller.... we usually use bikes for transportation on the valley floor, but we can't do that with R quite yet! so i figure we'll be walking or riding the bus and the stroller will be annoying. thoughts?

We just went camping (in tents) 2 weeks ago with Elliot. I was nervous about it but it went really well!
-We CD as well but used disposables for the trip. Much much easier.
-We took a pack n play and it was great. We took some toys and books and put them in there. It was out in the middle of the tents and Elliot played in there at some points during the day.
-We took lots of layers. It was warm during the day but it got chilly at night.
-We coslept and had no problems with E being cold at night.
-We took our stroller and it was really helpful especially when it came to naps.
-We also took a back carrier and E loved going in it for walks.

You'll be close to us!!! Yosemite is gorgeous right now! Have fun :)

We've camped a few times with our 12 mo twins! It's work but we love it.

If you are used to cloth, I recommend taking diaper covers for over the disposables if you have them. Helps prevent leaks and blowouts.

Take every medicine type thing that you could possibly need, tylenol, thermometer, etc. Our last trip, DD had severe constipation and DS had a fever and explosive diarrhea.

Take lots of clothing layers and lots of clothes in general, for you and baby. Sometimes I use only a quarter of what I pack and sometimes I wish I had more, but it's better to have too much than have to wear a poopy shirt for three days ;)

New toys for the car ride.

We nap our kids in the ergos, so that's a must have for us. It's a nice chance to take a long family walk and get some downtime. And our kids usually nap shorter, so they often take three instead of two.

Think about LOs food. Are you going to take a high chair, purees, finger foods? Don't forget bibs and probably wet wipes are easier than washcloths. But you may want washcloths for a quick wipe down type bath every night. Used the campground showers once on a long trip and it was kind of insane. Would be easier with two parents and one child though!

How mobile is LO? Crawling, pulling up etc? We found that having a beach mat with a pair of low to ground chairs was an awesome play spot for our kids. They can even crawl all over the chairs without tipping them. We try to keep sleep and play spaces separate.

Think about where LO will sleep. If cosleeping, LO will probably be plenty warm snuggled with you. But in a packnplay, a tent can get cold, so make sure there are lots of layers to keep warm. And do what you can to keep any sleep routines the same as home, bring books, loveys, etc.

Have fun!

We're headed to Yosemite in two weeks with my family and R, who will be 7 months old. I'm super excited because we had to pass on another trip there in May and DH and I love Yosemite. We're car-camping (as DH says) so we'll be in tents. We CD, but plan on disposables for the trip since there's no way we're cleaning dipes out!

I've found a few packing lists and we're pretty seasoned campers, but this is a first with LO. Any tips/tricks for camping with baby? What have you brought that has been a lifesaver? What could you have left behind? What did you forget that you'll never forget again?
