Does he like videos and ever get to watch them? 9 months could be a little young, but I know once my nephew was over a year old, the only thing that calmed him in the car was baby einstein videos on the iphone. Obviously you won't have internet, but maybe you could download something just in case?

Another stalker! We'll be doing two seven hour flights and one three hour with A when she's nine months, so this post is perfect!

I flew to korea w DD at 9mo. 2.5hrs really isn't very long! I liked having post-it's and painters tape. Anything new to LO will be helpful.

Do you have chewbeads? If not, I HIGHLY recommend them. We flew with LO after she was crawling and she was so interested in the chew beads.

Not sure about your LO, but my LO loves to play with things that aren't toys (a water bottle, the boogie wipes package, etc). I just made sure to give her lots of things to keep her attention. I also walked up and down the aisle with her in the Ergo. She loved the motion and seeing the passengers.

I flew with LO twice in January when she was 9 months -- once was shorter (1.5 hours) flights by myself and once was longer (3+ hours) flights with DH. LO did do some napping, thank god, as she is an extremely active baby. When she was awake, her favorite activities were: playing with the tray, pulling the safety card out of the seat pocket, and holding/eating/crinkling a half-empty water bottle.

She also LOVED to play peek-a-boo with the people sitting behind us. Luckily they either liked kids or decided that playing peek-a-boo was preferable to having a crying baby.

As a last resort, I also found that the Biscoff cookies Delta gives are great for keeping her quiet...

@kiddosc: you'll be amazed at how long a water bottle, a pouch of travel wipes and your necklace can keep your LO entertained on a flight (worked for us!) if you have room in your diaper bag, pack his favorite books and small toys. you'll be fine - i find that flying gets easier the more you travel. and even if he does throw a fit, you'll never see your fellow passengers ever again!

I just flew with a 9.5 month old. I was able to nurse her to sleep and she ended up sleeping for a large chunk of both flights. The rest of the time she played with the safety card, ate puffs, looked out the window, flirted with other travelers, and when I was tired of helping her jump in my lap I let her tear the SkyMall catalog to shreds.

I'm going to be stalking this post as I am in your exact situation - except I don't fly until the 22nd. I agree that it's all a little more worrisome when they're mobile!

I'm flying solo with E tomorrow and am really nervous about it. I've done it before when he was 6 months old, but he wasn't mobile then, and was mostly content to sit on my lap and play with some toys, and slept a bit.

He can crawl now, and is much more vocal, and I can't really imagine him being ok with being made to sit still for 2.5 hours. I'm planning on bringing puffs and a pouch of baby food to feed him, food is always a good distraction. And I'm going to download some children's books on my nook for him, but he's still a baby, so how long will that hold his attention?

DH keeps telling me not to stress out, that I shouldn't worry if people are bothered if I'm doing all I can to keep him entertained, but I know I'll get all anxious and sweaty if E pitches a fit.

Any other ideas on how to keep him entertained?
