My husband won't poop out of the house unless forced. It's not so bad. I think some people just like the ritual of it, and I imagine he's always been that way.

@mrbee: no, not too bad, but I figure any fear of pooping/keeping it in isn't great. Ok, more on email, thanks!

@Andrea: That doesn't sound too bad!

There is a great questionnaire in The Ins And Outs of Poop that helps you assess your child's constipation. It's really helpful in getting a baseline sense of where things are!

The book also recommends keeping a stool record, which is also a great way to get a baseline. In the record you can write down the Time, Shape, Color and Size of each movement...

I'll followup with you over email!!

@mrbee: I'd say between 3 and 4. I think she is slightly constipated so I need to keep working on her diet. In diapers, she pooped once almost every day, sometimes skipping a day. Since potty training, we've mostly gotten a BM every other day. I spoke to our pediatrician who said that is OK for kids DD's age? She even knew about functional constipation so I was kinda impressed.

It's not unusual for a potty-trained toddler to take time to adjust to pooping out of the home! I think it took Charlie some time too.

Where are your LO's poops on the Bristol stool scale... and what color are they? Also what are the frequency of her bowel movements?

Since potty training, DD has quickly developed a tendency to hold her poop at daycare and then poop at home. From reading Mr. Bee's poop posts, I knew that I should take action to correct this right away. I've increased the fiber in her diet, started giving her probiotics, cut down on dairy, and upped her water consumption. She still prefers to poop at home, though.

It does get really chaotic in the daycare bathroom with lots of other kids and teachers in there at the same time so I can see why she doesn't like to go there. Is this something that she should just get over? I've already asked her teacher to give her more alone time in the bathroom when she needs to poop, though.
