Siggi Icelandic skyr instead of Greek yogurt. Less than half the sugar and double the protein! Tastes great. I add 1/4cup udis granola for breakfast. Good luck!

I've snuck in some extra protein without changing up my overall eating habits too much. The easiest swaps have been:
-double protein english muffins (thomas makes them)
-adding chocolate protein powder to coffee and hot chocolate
-swapping regular milk for Fairlife brand high protein milk
-really reading the labels on other dairy before selecting. Some brands of Greek yogurt have as little as 6 grams of protein per serving, others have as much as 14g. There's also a fair bit of variation in protein content of cottage cheese.

Meat for the most part made me gag I had 2 eggs daily and a Greek yogurt those were my staple items, and if I did eat meat it was small pieces like chicken in a soup or taco so it was hidden...lol

What about chia seeds? I looked and it says it's a source of protein. I put chia seeds in my smoothies and overnight oatmeal, but I've made a coconut milk chia seed pudding with fresh fruit.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I went to whole foods after work and bought cottage cheese, individual Greek yogurts, turkey ' swiss for sandwiches, string cheese, sausage & zucchini to make little a.m. egg muffins, and a hemp protein powder to make shakes. Tomorrow should be a much better day!!

If find it hard to make big changes in my diet all at once, so some easy changes you could make- adding lots of nuts and seeds to your cereal and granola. Make sure your bread is whole wheat (it's just a small amount of protein but I'm of the mind that every bit helps). Then for dinner if you have legumes like lentils or beans eat them with rice so it completes the protein. I also like seeds in my salads. Also try to up your fish intake if you can. :goodluck:

@buttermilk: None of your meal options have much protein at all.

Your first breakfast is all carbs, the second has maybe 10-12 grams of protein from the eggs, the third has probably 20 grams with a lot of carbs (granola+fruit plus yogurt can be high in carbs). Maybe look at adding a meat to your breakfast? Scramble something into your eggs maybe?

A PBJ is low, too! I do sandwich meats (fresh chicken, for example), but the tuna's good! But bread=carbs, and if you're looking to replace them, this is an easy swap. Do it on a salad and add some cottage cheese on the side?

You can replace your cheese/crackers/hummus/chips (which, yes, cheese+hummus has *some* protein but it's also a lot of fat, so i don't consider them "sources of protein". Same with PB. 7grams? Not much. Maybe try yogurt for a snack? You can also mix herbs into plain greek yogurt to make a better veggie "dip". I love doing this!)

Other options: cottage cheese, yogurt, swiss cheese, boiled eggs, all the meat, beef jerky, smoothies, tofu, quinoa....

Right now for lunch, I'm doing Greek yogurt + almond butter + honey + some kind of fruit (blueberries or sliced bananas), and I haven't gotten sick of it yet!

I had to boost my protein intake while I was pregnant too, and it was hard because I lost my appetite during the first trimester and never got it back. I ended up making a lot of smoothies with chocolate frozen yogurt, peanut butter and a scoop of Trader Joe's chocolate-flavored protein powder.

@buttermilk: Add hemp seeds to your yogurt or turn that in to a smoothie with protein powder or hemp seeds. Add beans to your other meals? or lentils? Instead of crackers or chips you could try beanitos (chips made of beans) for a bit more protein?

I'm veggie so I tend to not get huge amounts of protein unless I really keep track of things (which in early pregnancy was not the case) but now in the third trimester I'm trying to up my beans, lentils, yogurt, milk and just be a bit more balanced. I've been finding fruit/yogurt/protein smoothies good and I carry a protein bar if need a quick snack.

@blackbird: for breakfast I alterante between 3 usually...

1. cereal, blueberries, almond milk with an English muffin
2. toast, scrambled eggs & avocado
3, Greek yogurt, granola & fruit

For lunch I make a pb&j sandwich or a tuna salad sandwich, or leftovers

For dinner it ranges between pasta, chili, soup, stir-fry, roasted chicken - I'm all over place there.

Then for snacks we eat lots of cheese and crackers and hummus & chips.

I need to figure out how to replace some of these carb habits with easy protein swaps!

I have the same problem. I track protein and try to get 30% and unless I'm tracking, I can't/don't get it! What are you eating now, typically?

I do a breakfast bake with cheese, eggs, egg whites, and turkey kielbasa. I also do greek yogurt and have a meat based lunch for the most part. And i do a protein shake at some point most days (22 grams!)

Hi Bees!

I'm 16 weeks pregnant & have always had a pretty healthy diet. I started tracking my foods this week in My Fitness Pal and realize I am consistently eating way too many carbs and not enough protein. Protein is super important for a developing baby right?

Do you have any tips on how to sneak more protein in daily? I'm not a giant meat eater so I really don't want to increase my meat intake dramatically, plus it's expensive!
