I sing songs or let her bring a favorite toy with her. We play games where she has to identify her different body parts. I tickle her belly and try to make her laugh. Basically anything to keep her distracted.

In general I try to be as respectful of DD's person. I made it a point to narrate every step of the way, ie honey your diapers dirty and we need to change it, I'm going to put you down so mommy can do a good job, next I'm going to take off your pants, etc.

DD also likes it when I sing to her, so I'd pick diaper changes as the time to introduce new songs.

My new favorite tip for this is to pick a totally odd location like on top of the dryer or the guest bedroom closet. I am usually a big fan of telling kids what we are doing and all that jazz but sneak attacks kind of work better in this instance. When you know a diaper change is coming up stash the wipes and clean diaper in your odd spot and lay down a changing pad if necessary, then carry lo there singing songs, blow raspberries on her belly as you lay her down, pretend her feet are missing in her pant legs etc. and by the time they know what is going on you are half done  .

It won't work every time but I save this tactic for poopy diapers and it usually works. For wet diapers I often will take their bottoms and maybe even the diaper off before I ever even remove them from what they are doing too, sometimes they are annoyed but again it usually minimizes the awful bits!

Good luck!

no tips, sorry - we're kind of dealing with a similar situation over here. Giving her random stuff like saline bottles or lotion tubes helped for about a week. Now sometimes she'll take her binky, and sometimes she'll throw it on the floor and continue to squirm.

LO is 13.5 months. We battle diaper changes every single time. She kicks her legs and flips over and if its a poop she screams. Its messy and ugly! I try giving her toys and anything else that may distract her but she just gets mad and throws them. I try to be calm and stern but by the end of the change its so hard not to be frustrated! She doesnt have a diaper rash so I dont think anything hurts.

Any tips?
