It usually takes one day per time zone to adjust. I would try to continue with your routine as usual and hope he adapts quickly.

West time shifts are hard!! When we went to CA from NY we just kind of went with it and started our day much earlier than we normally would. Gradually over a week he started sleeping later, but then it was time to go home. Even though it made me nervous that he wasn't getting nearly enough sleep, he handled it fine and it didn't affect his mood.

With DS, by the time he adjusted, it was time to adjust back. So now, we just stick with our regular routine. When it's time for him to eat, we pit stop and get him something to eat and we'll snack with him. When it's time for nap/bed, we let him. Our vacation goes along as norm, we just have to be mindful of his schedule.

@Ra: last time we had a time change, it took M 3 days to acclimate to it. We just kept her up until her normal bedtime and dealt with the early wakings until she adjusted.

We are in California for 10 days (we live on the east coast) and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to keep LO from waking so early. He typically sleeps from 9-10pm to 8-9am. The first night here, he slept from 9pm PST-8am PST. I was so excited because I thought he adjusted really quickly. The past 2 days, however, he has woken up between 5:45-6am PST. He's happy when he wakes, but clearly isn't ready to wake up for the day when he's only gotten 8 hours of sleep.

Any tips for helping him sleep later or am I just doomed for early wakeups for the next week? He doesn't have any issues staying up later/napping.
