ahh! K has just started doing this too! 20 months this week. But I thought it might be a new thing because we just started wearing socks again this weekend. Yesterday I tried tights but she was screaming because she couldn't take them off in the car.

My 20 month old does the same thing! It's so irritating! Most of the time I just carry her to the car and put her shoes on when we get to our destination. And then I take them off when we get back into the car. She also likes to put them in her mouth and chew on them which is pretty gross!

E *loves* to take her shoes off in the car. I either don't put them on her at all or I put zip-up style boots on her. She cannot get those off! I think E just likes anything with buckles and buttons and velcro...sometimes she just velcros them off but leaves them on

@Mrs. Rabbit: My LO does this every day...I'm actually happy because it entertains her for a while on our long commute. I figure it just takes a minute or less to put them back on her when we get to daycare.

I think I was asking the same questions at the same age. I never found the magic solution. Sometimes I would just wait to put shoes & socks on when we got there. I think it was just a behavior that she grew out of. It also seemed less appealing once she was forward-facing at 2 years (more things to look at and shoes and socks not right in her face?)

We went through this and it was very frustrating! The only advice I have is to not pay attention to her when she does it or do not acknowledge it and maybe the novelty will wear off? I think that's what happened with our son. He started around 18 months and did it for a month or so. He is 24 months now and hasn't done that in a long time. Now all he wants to do is put his shoes on by himself :meh: Different day, different battle in the toddler world.

My LO (23 mos) does this as well. I just take off his shoes and socks when I buckle him in and cover him up with one of his favorite blankets. I think the main reason he takes off his shoes and socks is because he has sweaty feet and doesn't like the dampness of his socks.

I rear-faced and just carried him to the car until he was almost 3. Which meant we put his shoes on after we got to wherever we were going. And then took it off when we got into the car. I was so anal about keeping the back seat clean and also b/c he's a thumb sucker and I can just imagine him touching his shoe and then sucking his thumb right after. At 5, he does take it shoes off ocassionally but also puts them back on when we get there so it's not that bad.

The second my daughter (20 months) gets into her car seat she takes her shoes and socks off. She wears them all day just fine, but she only takes them off when she gets in the car.

Now that it's getting colder out (it was freezing this morning), I'm losing patience for fetching them from wherever she threw everything in the backseat so I can put them back on her. (This morning a sock and shoe were on the other side of the car, so I had to walk all the way around—aaahh! Not a huge deal, but it's cold out, man!)

Did you fight this battle? Please tell me you won and what your secret to winning was!!!
