I just left DS at 17 mo with my BFF for 5 days so I just went through this. She came in a day or two beforehand to get used to him and his schedule. I think that was the biggest helper. I asked her what she would like me to do in regards to either write down a detailed list of his schedule along with meal ideas, where his clothes were, etc. She thought she would be fine without it since she was there early. So the only thing I left her was a written medical release so that she could make medical decisions if necessary (thankfully it wasn't) along with our insurance card and the number and address for his pediatrician, the urgent care place, and the hospital.

The biggest advice I gave her was to respect his sleep! :) She did great. She did so much with him in those 5 days!

@lamariniere: thanks! Dad will be getting serious car seat lessons before we leave town.

@sunny: yup I made a do not eat list too (just eggs and nuts). My mom and dad have to use our BOB because they can never fold our UppaBaby! Ha!

Do your parents have a good idea of what she is and isn't allowed to eat? Things like peanut butter, shellfish or other things that haven't been introduced yet?

Do your parents know how to fold up the stroller, operate any appliances they may need at your house like the TV or washing machine?

Have fun on your trip!!!!

Everything sounds good! The only thing I can think of is maybe show them how to properly strap her in to the car seat/stroller?

@MamaMoose: you may have this written down somewhere already, but I always leave a signed letter stating my parents can seek medical treatment and/or make medical decisions if needed. I may be over cautious but in case we couldn't be reached for some reason I wanted to make sure they had proof of permission

When I left #1 with my in-laws when I was in the hospital having #2 I made a binder of the daily schedule, nap/bedtime routine, food options, insurance information etc. I also had some food prepared in containers in the fridge so they knew how small to cut up LO food. My MIL said that was extremely helpful as was the detailed daily schedule, she said appreciated how detailed it was so she didn't have to guess about anything in the midst of taking care of LO.

I also made a list of "safety" items, which included particular things around our house that LO was prone to get into or general safety things about our house to be aware of. It was probably overboard but it made me feel better to at least have the information written out for them.

eeeek! you're gonna have so much fun!! :)

I think you've covered everything. When I went away I left a really detailed schedule for P even though he pretty much knows our routine. Just wanted to remind him that the kids need x y and z before nap and bedtime, etc.

My husband and I will be going on vacation soon and my parents are coming down to our house to keep our 18 month old while we're gone. My dad will be here with us for two days before we leave so she can get comfortable with him (she knows him but they live a plane ride away so don't see each other often.) This should also give him a chance to get used to her likes/dislikes, hopefully better understand her words, and get used to her schedule. The below are the things I've done so far to prepare:

Told school what days my parents will be picking up/dropping off
Leaving doctor's number and my insurance and prescription cards for them
Written down her schedule
Made a list of fun activities they can do on the weekend
Made a list of favorite foods and stocked them in the house
Wrote down all the details of day care drop off/pick up
Laid out clothes for the day that my dad will be alone with her (mom arrives the day after we leave and she can pick out clothes).
Left instructions for medicine

Any other tips? I totally trust my parents and I don't want to (or feel the need to) be overbearing and tell them things like "don't leave her unattended in the tub". Just want to make sure they feel prepared and comfortable so they can have fun with LO and not be stressed!
