@Cole: yup, we did that too. She's played in the back of the car (hatch back) and had fun.

I'm at a loss and feel awful!

You may have already tried this but one of the kids I nanny for flipped in a similar way about going in my car. We went out and had a picnic in it one day, I showed her I was leaving the keys inside the house and I let her climb up front to check out the view and let her explore all the nooks and crannies in the back. We put a few favorite books in the seat pocket and put a special treat in the pocket of the door handle so that next time she got in it would be waiting for her. We are a special lunch out there and after all of that we went on for nap. That afternoon I asked if she wanted to go to the park and have her a choice of one we have to drive to or the one by the house. She picked the one we drive to (which is extra special since we don't go there as often) and that was that. I think giving back all the control really helped her. Had she refused that afternoon we probably would have just repeated the activity the next day and maybe upped the fun factor for driving in the car.

We also tried:

- saying let's go in grandmas car to get ice cream!
- let's go see the horses/ducks at the farm
- let's go to the pond

I don't want to force her or frighten her. But, on Tuesday my hands will be tied. She either gets in the car happily or DH has to take her home.

Yeah I'd get her a special toy she can have in grandmas car...and maybe a special snack and cup too.

Edit - boo, what about a convincing her you're all going on a trip to the park - I bet getting her in it once (there and back) would ease her fears.

Edit 2 - double boo. Sorry

Get gramma to get her a new toy that's waiting in her car for LO to play with while she's riding.

eta: it could totally be different on the actual day. She might be all ready to go in gramma's car, with just her and gramma doing it.

We are having baby #2 on Tuesday, and bought a car seat (same one that we have in DHs car) to install in grandmas car. She will be in charge on Tuesday, while we are at the hospital.

We did a test run today and Chloe will not get in her car. She won't even sit in the car seat. She panicked, screamed and cried, and said she only likes mommys car or daddy's car.

The catch is my husband drives a stick and logistics prohibit anyone from using my car. We bought this specifically for MILs car. The only other option is for DH to drive Chloe home, which leaves me alone at the hospital post c-section. M

So, any tips to ease her fear? I'm feeling worried and flustered!
