Prilosec OTC. I would be so miserable without it. My OB had me try it and I swear it has changed my life.

Dairy is actually bad for heartburn because while it feels good going down, the reactions it causes in your stomach actually exacerbate heartburn and you end up much worse than when you started.

Giant tubs of Tums. That's all I got! Milk and dairy seemed to help me.

I had the worst heartburn while pregnant. I would actually wake up choking on acid in the middle of the night. I ended up going on Prevacid for prevention. Even that didn't completely stop it, it just made it slightly more tolerable.

I'm sorry!

My doctor recommended I take OTC Zantac while I was pregnant and that helped a LOT! Good luck!

I had bad reflux/heartburn pre-preg... I controlled it by avoiding all fizzy/acidic drinks and not over eating in a big meal. If I had eaten a lot for whatever reason or I felt it coming on, I'd take tums or equivalent. I'm 24wks preg now and *touch wood* have barely had any issues... though I'm being really careful with the amount I eat, so maybe that's why.

Ok, so if I'm thirsty I should drink milk? Anything else that's safe-ish for heartburn?
Any foods that are good at quelling it or at least not exacerbating it?

Eating small meals it what works best for me - mostly prevents it from occurring in the first place. Also tums when it flares up.

You can get OTC Prilosec (w/ doc approval, of course), or get a prescription for it. It was cheaper for me to get the prescription. That was honestly the only thing that helped.

Keep yourself propped up when you sleep, and drink milk! In the middle of the night, when it hits baaad, I usually just go drink a few sips of milk (not a whole glass, anything you put in your stomach will stimulate acid) and it calms down nicely.

Tums, and/or calcium mag supplements, and lots of good milk. But be careful not to OD. I got kidney stones at 28 weeks!

My dr let me stay on my OTC Prilosec & I can take tums as needed. Mostly I try to avoid acid foods & drinks. Onions, tomatoes, & coffee are the worse for me. Also eating several small meals & not eating 3 hour bed or laying down has helped. Good luck to you!

Ugh. I'd love tips too. I just ran out of tums the other day at work and right now I am having such bad heart burn.

Also, if anyone can explain the difference between heartburn and acid reflux, I'd be grateful.

My heartburn was out of control for much of my pregnancy. I had Tums in every room as well as the car, my desk at work and my purse. I got heartburn from water. Sorry not to have more tips.

I was hoping it wouldn't hit till later in the pregnancy (I'm 20 weeks), but I'm in full-on heartburn mode. Any tips besides just keeping Tums in every room of my house?
Sadly, I'm also still nauseated half the time, so taking something for the heartburn bothers me almost as much as the heartburn itself!
