I'll have to try that!

I'm usually pretty good about not yelling, but every now and then I slip. It usually happens when I'm sleep deprived, so the more sleep I get, the better.

So far what works best is telling myself, "she's not giving me a hard time, she's having a hard time." Also reminding myself that she's 2.5 and her brain is still developing.

That, and sometimes I just catch myself and say, "what is wrong with you?!" (in my head, to myself), and then I apologize and explain that mommy got too frustrated, etc.

I've been trying out this new technique lately, where I will narrate my feelings to my kids when they're not listening.

"I'm feeling really frustrated right now because you promised me that you'd put your shoes on, but you're sitting on the couch instead!"

I'm pretty sure it's not helping my kids listen any better, but it prevents me from getting upset and losing my temper! It feels great to be raising my voice less... I'd love to get it down to 0 though. Any tips for not losing your temper and/or raising your voice with your kids?
