@Truth Bombs: not regularly and he is not super interested in starting right now again.

Thank you all for your tips! I did some independent research and I think we are going to try melatonin first and if that doesn't work try magnesium.

@Mae: That's interesting, because I bet my husband would have similar results. He's a light sleeper and snores too.

I used to take magnesium supplements when I had terrible restless legs, I might start those up again.

My husband swears by a magnesium supplement. I also use magnesium lotion on LO, and I think she sleeps better. It could be a coincidence, but I say its worth a shot.

@Mae: Sleep study. If he snores that badly and is now getting very restless, sleep apnea is a possibility. Also, anxiety. My DH had anxiety that manifested in this manner. He didn't feel stressed either but was having sleeping issues. As luck would have it a sleep apnea diagnosis landed him a cpap and the anxiety resulted in lexapro and he started sleeping like a log.

@MrsSRS: I too have been taking a magnesium supplement for the last 3 weeks, and I feel like my muscles are more relaxed, no migraines since I started taking them, and also a bit easier to get to sleep. Its worth a shot! Also - TMI but they really help keep you *regular*

Is he open to taking melatonin? My husband has similar issues and it helps him when he takes it. I'm like you, I sleep fine as long as my son lets me! He's not particularly worried about anything, I almost think he stresses himself out worrying about his sleep problem!

@MrsSRS: So I just read up on magnesium on webmd but it didn't say anything about sleep or the dosage for that. Do you have more info?

@SweetiePie: eeeeek don't say that lol. My husband can't sleep on his stomach. He loooves sleeping on his back but I won't let him because he snores so bad on his back it wakes me up and i poke him and make him roll over (although weirdly I haven't had to do that since this started so he must be staying on his side!). The new pillow thing is a good idea though! We could probably use some new ones.

This might sound strange but I swear that changing my position recently has helped. I always slept on my stomach or side but wasn't much of a back sleeper. Recently I started laying down to go to bed on my back and waking up in the same position in the morning. I had previously done a lot of tossing and turning and waking during the night. Sleeping on my back seems to have helped. Maybe I wasn't really as comfortable as I thought I was on my stomach and side so I was waking and always adjusting?

Similarly - I wonder if a new pillow might help? I feel like at some point in my life I read that the wrong pillow (or an old one that has lost its shape, fluff, etc) can impact sleep. But that's a shot in the dark.

@MrsH: We have an audio monitor going all the time in our room and LO has loud white noise so we basically have white noise in our room too. But maybe we should turn it up a bit.

@looch: I don't know if I can keep him up any later lol. Left to his own devices he'd go to bed at like 9pm but he stays up with me until 11 because it's our only us-time. By the time we turn in he is literally out in under 30 seconds haha.

@catlady: I keep our room frigid and use a fan through most of the winter because I like sleeping snuggly under covers. We also have seriously the most comfortable bed and bedding ever. I can't understand the not sleeping because I'm out like a light and sleep until my alarm every single day!

So my husband has been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately, and I feel so badly for him! I've never had much trouble sleeping (so long as a kid wasn't screaming at me) so it is hard for me to relate or brainstorm.

He has no trouble at all falling asleep, but staying asleep is hard for him. He's been waking up 2-3 times overnight and said it takes him 10+ min to fall back asleep. Then he wakes for the day 1-2 hours before he has to be up and can't get back to sleep. He said he isn't feeling stressed or up thinking about any particular thing when he is up. He also doesn't drink any caffeine ever. He said he doesn't want to take sleeping pill type stuff because he doesn't think that is good sleep.

Any tips for staying asleep? Or getting back to sleep quickly when you wake in the early morning hours?

Thanks!
