@MsMini: Nice last minute surprise! We did Kauai for our babymoon and loved it! But it seemed really difficult to get places walking around - we had to get in the rental car to go just about anywhere. I think a light umbrella stroller would be nice, if even just to tote your beach stuff and diaper bag around.
Just got back from our trip and the biggest game changer for us was jet-lag and time difference. I do know that having some of the comforts of home with us made a difference helping her sleep (her blankets, sound machine, wubbanub, glowing seahorse). Those are things I will always pack for a trip!

Also, while we were in Kauai, people had these amazing half shaded tents and half shaded waddling pools for their babies. It seemed like a lot of work to haul and blow-up, but they were able to stay at the beach for HOURS! The babies stayed protected from the sun and even napped in the tents!
Kind of like these:

We went to Oahu and the Big Island when DS was 11 months. I would skip the high chair, that just seems like too much to bring. Honestly, you may not need a stroller if you are renting a car. We took our Maclaren, but only used it once or twice in Oahu and in the airport. We had a rental car and drove most places and used the Ergo for the rest.

You can probably also rent/buy beach sun protection once you are there.

By the way, have you ever thought of stuffing the car seat bag with goodies *or dirty laundry* for the flight home? It saves on baggage fees. I've never done it but my friend does it all the time.

I would call the hotel and ask about borrowing the high chair (Four Seasons hotels, which is the company I work for, doesn't advertise that they have high chairs to loan, but will put one in the room if you ask)- or do you even need it? Most restaurants will have them, or you can wing it during times they don't.
Also, we just rented a car with car seat on vacation- I checked, it wasn't expired and other than being cheap there was nothing wrong with it.
Oh! We just bought the First Years Ignite umbrella stroller at Target- it's pretty great, it has a decent storage basket and is a pretty smooth ride- I'm super picky about strollers (we have an UppaBaby Vista, so stroller snob over here, haha) and at first I was a little dubious because it was so cheap, but I think it would be perfect as a vacation stroller.
You can check car seats and strollers for free (I would do that and baby wear on the plane) as an FYI, might make the airport easier :). Have fun and enjoy the sunshine! I'm jealous!

@MsMini: Poop!!! Maybe there is another brand?.... hmmmm

With the car rental & car seat stuff I was advised against it b/c you don't know the history of the seat (just like the risk in buying a seat from a stranger)... if nothing else, atleast check the expiration date! eep!

@runsyellowlites: That looks awesome! They won't ship to Canada though :(

@Mrs Green Grass: My Mom is coming along, for babysitting (and you know, a trip to Hawaii - LOL)! Enjoy your trip!

@Mrs. Jacks: The cost of renting the high chair is as much as I paid for one! I was looking into renting the car seat with a car, but we are only planning on renting a car for a few days, and I get nervous about not being able to the get seat.

@MsMini: I know on the big island here is high chair rental, so you may not want to schlep that extra luggage! Also see if your car rental company also rents car seats. Because we had two girls it didn't make sense to rent but we would have with just one.

Bring your preferred baby sunscreen because it's harder to fun there.

I haven't been to Kauai in a long time, but I once lived there for a summer. It was great!

@MsMini: I don't know if you have time to get one of these but I see alot of the techs in the car seat group I'm in using them for their little ones so they can easily get their stuff & car seat on/off the plane & you can keep the munchkin safe on the plane strapped in! :)

We never travel anywhere, but if we did we would most definitely get something like this! Have fun in Kauai

Well, last minute, but my DH's work is sending him to Kauai in 2 weeks, and me and S are going along! What are your best tips?

We have done a short plane trip, but stayed with family, what would you recommend?

I am bringing:
-Our car seat
-Travel folding high chair
-Ergo carrier
-I am trying to find a decent umbrella stroller

The hotel supplies:
-Crib

We are thinking about bringing:
-Beach sun shelter

For the plane, I will be loading the iPad with some stuff, and buying a bunch of new toys from the dollar store. He is too big for the bassinet and would never lay in it anyways.
