@Andrea: cool, it's nice to see it vindicated by a real person rather than just something I read in a book!

@aunt pol: I agree. That is what I did and it seemed to work in ending the night feeds early on.

The book I just finished very strongly recommended waking babies, especially young ones, for frequent feeds during the day- she said if you don't, you're setting yourself up for multiple night time feeds as baby won't have taken enough calories etc during the day. If they aren't feeding often enough during the day, they'll be even more tired and then cranky as well cos they're hungry. I'd sooner do plenty of feeds during the day if it meant I could have more sleep at night!

@Rubies: my pediatrician said. LO should be eating every 1.5 to 3 hours. I have the same issue with trying to wake my daughter so now I try to just let her sleep and pump if I need to.

No advice- never had that problem. We used to set an alarm clock to wake ourselves up to feed LO, but she always beat the alarm clock. I'm kind of jealous.

I'm not a mom yet so I'm confused too as to why you would wake baby up to feed? I would assume to just let baby keep sleeping?

we just went over this in our breastfeeding class. you can wipe face with a cool washcloth, tickle chin, gently play with or massage arms and legs, snap fingers, rub cheeks or ear lobes...

good luck!

How's LO's weight gain?

Our pedi told me not to wake DS because his weight gain was so good and he's always been on the bigger side. I was glad because I don't think I could have had I needed to (I tried in the hospital and it was near impossible). If your breastfeeding, I would just pump during those times, but that's only if your LO doesn't need the extra feeds.

My LO will sleep 4-5 hours at a time- especially after cluster feeding. I just let him go. I figure he'll wake up when he needs to feed and am not stressing about following the 2-3 hour guidelines I've seen.

I may be a bit ignorant but why are you waking him up to feed? I used to have a similar problem with LO falling asleep in the middle of a feed and needing to wake her up to finish but this is not the same, right|?

I've tried taking off the clothes, rubbing the back, talking, brushing my nipple nose-to-chin, etc but sometimes it takes so long for my LO to wake up to feed. If i let him sleep in the day, he could sleep for 4-5 hours!...but to try to feed him every 2-3 hours, I have to wake him up. Any tips for waking a sleeping baby?
