All they did at our first visit was count teeth and rub with some gauze. Both LOs screamed their heads off during their first visit. We also asked about what looked like a cavity and it was a stain. Don't have too manY expectations, and you will be fine!

Our first visit was super easy! At one year we went and no prob - he actually was more apprehensive at age 2. The first visit was just a little look, a fluoride application and a brushing lesson for mom and dad. The whole thing was more for the parents than the child!

I would say the most important is to know your LO will probably be upset and that is okay (our dentist actually said the crying was a good thing since it forced LO to keep his mouth opened). I would also try to schedule when your LO is usually the happiest, not hungry or tired. They probably won't really do anything except a quick look.

They had me hold LO and lay his head on the dentist lap and she examined him upside down. That was about it. She did some minor surface cleaning to make sure the staining from his iron supplements was actually just staining and we were done.

Good luck!

My LO is only 10 months old but he already has 8 teeth so we've set up a dentist appt for him. For those of you who have already been through this, any tips on making the appointment less painful for the both of us?
