@misolee: we have used the sport brella umbrella for a few years now and we couldn't be happier. Its what I have used to prevent my two LOs from getting too much sun. It's pretty cool since u can easily convert from a tent to an umbrella

The beach we are going to in a few weeks only allows circular beach umbrellas, and they can't be bigger than 7' 6" in diameter. I would definitely check to see what the beach you are going to allows before you purchase anything.

My husband didn't want anything to do with a tent so we went with some Tommy Bahama umbrellas from Costco.

I've never heard of a beach not allowing a tent of any kind, but perhaps check the website? A lot of times they post their list of do's and don'ts on there for visitors.

Also, this is a bit more pricey and takes up more trunk space, but we have used this for several years: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-Instant-10-x-10-Straight-Leg-Canopy-Gazebo/22301932. We set it up for the day and it covers a lot of space and hang sheets to keep out wind and sun if needed. Have fun!

@misolee: we don't have a beach umbrella, but we have a beach tent that we love - http://www.amazon.com/Lightspeed-Outdoors-26795-BV-Quick-Cabana/dp/B005LGV2PA/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1406401747&sr=1-3&keywords=beach+tent - it's really easy to set up, and I think it provides more shade than a beach umbrella. I do see a lot of people using beach umbrellas at our beaches too though, so at least in Socal, they're allowed.

We're finally going to the beach in two weeks with my family and I'm getting all my gear ready! Our family is not a big beach vacationer, so I am clueless. I would like to have lots of shade so has any one have any tips on beach umbrellas?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002CLQ1Q2/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=285ALXLF7LYHJ&coliid=I1IHI3WPM0D9Q2&psc=1
I saw this one but i remember someone saying that some beaches do not allow things like this. Has anyone experienced this before?

Any other suggestions?
