My Lo took a bottle like a champ in the beginning, but from weeks 5-11 wanted nothing to do with it. We tried almost every day with just a tiny bit, but we didn't force it because then they can associate the bottle with an unpleasant experience, and you don't want that. We eventually had sucess with the momma bottles, but my first day back at work she only drank 6oz the wholw time, but by the second day things were much much easier. Things that helped were my dh singing to her and standing feeding her, warm the nipple up, and just waiting it out but keep trying every few days.

We just attempted a bottle of pumped bm last night to see if she'd take it. My husband sat with her and snuggled but she screamed! She wouldnt even let it be near her mouth. Eventually I breastfed her and then when she got a little sleepy I switched to the bottle. It took some time and mostly she just let the bottle nipple sit in her mouth but she took about an ounce and a half. Hopefully next time it'll be a little better. That's the last time I fill a bottle to 4 oz for a while though! It felt terrible to dump so much!

My friend swears that the comotomo (or something like that) bottles worked for her bf baby. I have a bottle fed baby but even she won't take any bottle, she prefers softer nipples (eg playtex drop ins) to harder ones (eg avent.).

@Smurfette: Sorry you're having such a tough time. Infants can be tough. X was not an easy baby either. We just kept plugging along, trying different things with some success, and accepting some things that we couldn't fix/change. Eventually it'll get better. Keep trying!

@red_seattle: DH poured all 4 oz in the bottle cause that was what was in the bag in the fridge. I would have only put half. She has sucked down 2 ozs before no problem and then still hungry, guessing that is why he did the whole bag.

We tried a bottle of formula before bed, wouldn't take it either. I was in another room. Used a faster nipple, warmer it up, DH out my shirt over his so she would smell me and nothing.

I just one thing would be easy with her :(

Depends on the circumstances-- X never outright rejected the bottle, but he was never really wild about it either. So I have no advice for crying when the bottle is offered/flat out rejection. But, for just not really being interested in the bottle, some things we did that helped: moving up to a faster nipple flow (to match my faster let down), and warming the nipple before the feeding-- anything to make it seem more like me. So maybe thinking through how to make the bottle feeding experience more like nursing.

The other thing is, we kind of accepted that X was more fond of the boob, so he only ever got 2 oz of milk in his bottle at a time-- otherwise a lot would be wasted. I think the most he ever drank at once was just shy of 4oz. He made up for it by nursing more when I got home/overnight.

I've had to stay away bc she totally rejected it the first time. DH got her the next time and tried again without me ever being in sight. She took it after that. We started with small amounts so we weren't wasting anything. I have never given her a bottle myself.

My DS didn't eat for 6 hours because he wouldn't take a bottle from my DH while I was out!
I've forced my DS to take a bottle a few times before I gave up.
I used to hold my crying baby with the bottle in his open mouth and would just let the milk drop into his mouth.
He'd stop to swallow every once in a while.
After an hour or so he'd give up and take the bottle.
It was a painful process! :( I found that babies (both of mine anyway) start trying to reject the bottle between 2-3 months.

I have heard that if they're hungry enough, they'll take a bottle...but it's so sad to hear LO cry! Can you leave home for a quick errand at feeding time, then DH can try for a little while without you being there for a backup option? I have heard it's important to give a bottle a day once they do start taking it.

R has taken a bottle before but the last couple days, she won't go near it. Such a waste of pumped milk.

Any tips on getting her to take it? DH is the one giving it to her. Even in another room so she won't smell me.
