We just went cold turkey. One Friday, I decided it was time and put her to bed without it. We went the whole weekend without and then I removed the one from daycare on Monday. We never turned back. It was harder for me than her. She fussed some that first night but fell asleep okay.

Honestly, I was afraid of the meltdowns and they really never came. LO was 17 months old when we took her paci away.

We don't have this problem... but I have read blogs where people have been successful with cutting a bit of the tip daily so the LO gets use to it being smaller and harder to suck. They cut till it's a little nub and it's impossible to suck, the kid usually gets annoyed and gives up on it. :) If I had this issue I like this method because it gives your LO time to adjust rather than having it taken away cold turkey.

Good luck!

DD is almost 20 months. In about 6 months, baby #2 will be here. I would really like to get rid of the paci now, but I've avoided it because it really has saved our sanity. She always has to have something in her mouth, and flips out if she doesn't have her paci. We've been able to narrow it down to just bed time (and sometimes car rides), but how do we quit that?
