If you are only going to go a few times a year, ask for a senior stylist or even the owner of the salon. Tell them what your concerns are and how much you can spend/visit per year and they'll come up with a plan for you.</p> <p>The best thing I ever did was get an American wave 2 summers ago...my hair was practically maintenance free in the humid summer and it gradually relaxed, as opposed to growing out like a perm. I loved it so much but my hair was too short for it this summer, I am growing out my hair so I can get it done again this summer.</p> <p>As for makeup, I'd invest instead in skin care. If your insurance covers a visit to a dermatologist, start there. I'll bet finding a good hair stylist would make a big difference in how you feel.</p> <p>I've gone back and forth in my life from wearing zero makeup to wearing a pretty full face of products. I'm back to low maintenance now unless I have work appointments out of the house. When I do step it up I just do a little mascara in addition to my standard under eye concealer. I think you have to drop a little cash on that type of thing. I've never done a Sephora consultation but I did one at Bare Minerals and I absolutely loved it. I have been using the same bb cream, mascara, eyeshadow and bronzer for years. I have tried a few blushes. It takes me 90 seconds to do my makeup. 5 minutes with eyeliner &amp; brows for an event. Don't let them sell you on expensive brushes, the Sonia Kashuk ones at Target are 1/3 the price and great. I really like Nordstrom for product. Do you have a brand in mind that you like? I love Supergoop for sunscreen and Dior for mascara.</p> <p>As far as hair get a refferal from a friend or two with hair you love and try it once. Make sure you call for a price first to be sure it's in your budget. I also have shoulder length hair, I get it cut at a salon 3-4 times a year and dyed back dark to my natural color in the fall. I'm expecting LO2 in June and I'd like to make some strides before things get harder. </p> <p>I'm thinking of booking an appointment for a Sephora beauty consultation. I've never done any makeover with required purchase thing. Thoughts/tips? I'm interested in a quick routine I could do daily (SPF, mascara?) and then something for dressier times.</p> <p>Any other suggestions on ways to improve image? Since I'm pregnant I don't want to invest a whole lot in a wardrobe. Do $$ haircuts make a difference if you have shoulder length or longer hair? I've never been anywhere besides SuperCuts type places and have never had my hair colored (besides a sun in disaster in high school). </p>
