we live blocks from the beach, so we go often, but for short times usually. we did a whole day at the beach (18 months) and brought our travel crib (which she refused because she was having too much fun) and ended up napping her in our carrier for 30 minutes (could have gone longer but i made the mistake of sitting down!). we always bring an outdoor blanket, towels, lots of suncreen, hats for everyone, sunglasses, an umbrella, sand toys (shovel, bucket and some sand shapes), beach chairs for the adults. lately, we also have brought a boogie board and a wetsuit and she LOVES it. seriously obsessed.

she usually makes friends with random kids and plays in the sand, water, with sand crabs, etc. if i was driving far, i would just make sure i was piled up with snacks and water!

We had a beach vacation in May when LO was about 33 months, so just bit older than yours. She would only last a couple of hours before she was over it. We had sand toys, snacks, water and her puddle jumper. Her favorite thing really was to walk along the water edge with her Dad looking for shells. She would sit and play in the sand but it didn't keep her as engaged.

Not sure if you've been to the beach with your LO's yet but we just took a vacation with our 20 month old and he HATED all things beach the first day. Wouldn't even let us put him down. The only way he would play with the sand toys is if he sat on a beach chair. He loves the water normally but I think the fact that it was so big scared him. Just a thought as it surprised me. Hopefully since your LO is older, you should be ok.

Honestly, we rarely last more than 2-3 hours at the beach with our 2 year old. It's just very exhausting for him, though he loooves it so much. I think attempting a nap on the way home is the way to go. Good luck!

My kids are almost same age as yours and we just took them about a month ago. Def everything you mentioned we brought and that was about it! Tons of towels...more than what you think you might need!

I just did the twins 2nd Birthday party on the beach.
I bought some pinwheels at the dollar store that all the kids loved playing with.
I had 2 flat sheets I put down in the sand so the little one's could crawl around.
Hats for the kids to avoid too much sun.
I froze some go-gurt and they ate that with no mess.
Baby powder to get the sand off when you leave.
A large shovel in addition to beach shovel/pail.
Trucks, trucks, trucks.

We took a blow up little pool for the beach for our 5 moth old, filled it with ocean water, and let him splash around in the shade. It worked great!

No tips since I haven't gone to the beach with R yet. Sounds like you have everything covered. I saw on pinterest to bring a baby tub so the baby can sit in water to help keep cool at the beach.

We're trying to go to the beach this weekend w/ our 2.5 yr old and 4 month old, hoping it won't end in disaster.

We live about 1.5 hours from the beach and want to get there 1st thing in the morning. We're in TX, so it's super hot and humid (but cooler at the beach). We plan bringing a tent, chairs, cooler w/ snacks and drinks and beach toys. Our 2.5 yr old still needs one nap, so we're trying to figure out if we should attempt it there or on the way home.

What are some tips you have for surviving and making it fun?
