I've never had to do this, but my understanding is that bedtime is when they are falling asleep now. So plan to have her in bed at a time that would be reasonable for her to fall asleep at 9:15 (8:45?). Then when she is reliably falling asleep within whatever time frame you are hoping for, you back it up by 15 min and see if she will still fall asleep within the half hour. And so on and so on until you get to the desired bedtime. I think the thinking is that you don't want to be in bed awake for too long or else you stop associating your bed with sleeping (apparently, that works for adults too).

We had the opposite problem (7 pm bedtime, 5am wake) and we waited for daylight savings, then didn't adjust LO so his body didn't have to change but the time on the clocks was better for us. I realize this isn't very helpful 😕

DS1 is the same. We go to bed at the same time - around 10. I always aim for earlier but he just doesn't fall asleep until 10 or a bit later. He takes a nap at school but is up by 2:30. And wake up time is about 7. I think it's just him. Don't really know how to change it.

Following! My LO also regularly goes to bed around 9:30 and is up around 6/6:15 naturally, and I would LOVE to get him to sleep longer at night!

My 27 month old has always been a late to bed-early to rise kid, averaging about 9-10 hours of sleep at night and a 2 hour nap (1-3, which she usually takes in full and we even have to wake her up in order to preserve bedtime).

Lately, she's been taking longer to settle down to sleep and I then have to wake her up in the morning. We put her down at 8, and she usually falls asleep around 8:30 and is up around 6-6:30. Lately she's taking until 9-9:15 to fall asleep, and I have to go in and wake her up in the morning to have enough time to get her ready and out the door. Is there any way to shift her back to an earlier bedtime? I hate to deprive her of sleep in the morning and we're already cutting her nap, since it pushes bedtime even later if we don't. We tried putting her down earlier and later but her bedtime hasn't ever changed - she's ready when she's ready, it seems.
