Caffeine and doing a standing up job helped again tonight, its almost 9:30 and I'm still awake and actually watching a show instead of falling asleep to it :-)

I found this super yummy ready to drink Starbucks drink at the supermarket, it tastes like chocolate milk but has the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee! So I think I'm going to make that my after dinner pick me up from now on.

Following! I never get anything done any more because bedtime puts me to sleep. Even if I'm awake I'm a zombie. I'll sit next to DH reading on my phone, give up on doing anything that involves thinking, and go to bed.

It's so hard. I agree with @brownepiano on fun food. If I can motivate to get things ready, I can get my husband downstairs with the thought of fun food (and then I usually get a game out of it, too). :)

@Reese: Totally agree I can rally when I have real plans outside of the house!

@Tanjowen: That's a great idea!

@wrkbrk: Haha, that is what I thought Netflix and Chill meant at first since that is what we do also :-)

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I tried this today and so far so good! I had a coffee around 5:30pm and after bedtime did the dishes / cleaned the kitchen to get over the hump, and now I'm still feeling good so maybe the caffeine is the key! Thanks!

I've learned that if I sit down on the couch after I put dd to sleep I won't be getting up again. So if I want to do something productive I have to do it as soon as I put dd to sleep.

Does caffeine affect you? I usually have a strong tea or some coffee right after work, so I have a bit of a boost. I also find that sitting down right away means I'll fall asleep quick; so if I go get the mail or put away some things, I get a second wind.

This is my problem too! I sit by myself in the kitchen and do something mindless (Hulu, Facebook, etc) before getting back the energy to tackle the dishes/laundry/whatever. DD (26 months) is EXHAUSTING lately!

Following* the only time we can stay up is if we have plans and unfortunately those are normally not together (i.e.:playing hockey/taking a night course..etc)

When I wanted to stay up after putting the kids down, I used to go on a brief walk outside. It helped keep me up for a while, but not for too long!

For a while though, I just learned to go down with the kids. I was so tired and it was easier than fighting sleepiness and then falling asleep anyway!

Food. We have fun food after the kids go to bed. Granted we still usually just sit and watch something but I also have to work a few nights a week after bedtime. On those nights I have to make sure to keep moving and not just lay down.

Both DH and I work full time, and by the time we get the kids in bed for the night, one or both of us is ready to just pass out on the couch! We are usually done with both by 8/8:30 (we take turns on who does what kid) but then we sit down / watch a show and I almost ALWAYS fall asleep on the couch within 5 minutes. I'm getting really sick of feeling like I'm wasting all my "free" time asleep on the couch, but I also feel like I can't function!

I'd love to know if anyone has a routine after you put the kid/s to bed to help you wake back up!
