We're going through the exact same thing at the moment. E used to go to bed at 6pm most nights and STTN approx. 4/7 nights each week. But for the last week or so (13 months old), since she has been walking, she has refused to go down until 9pm and seems completely full of energy. It seems that nothing will tire her out!!! I might try some of the ideas here!! I have to say, though, that when we take her swimming that does make her really sleepy - but you don't go swimming at bedtime, do you?!

@78h2o: thanks, I think I really need to give it a try! She hates open water, so that hasn't worked. Haven't taken her to a pool yet though. We just moved and I need to figure out the pool system here.

Now that I wrote it out, she is totally getting enough sleep and I should quit complaining :P Buuuut, her schedule is not too convenient. Her bedtime takes from 8ish to 9:30 and by that point I just crawl into bed myself, so DH and I hardly spend any time together during the week, kinda sucks.

@Mrs. Lion: I don't think she is overtired, she has always been on the lower end of sleep needs. But the separation anxiety could be something! A few weeks ago I dropped her down to one nursing session at bedtime, instead of the multiple times a night and morning. So she might just need the extra cuddles to make up for the change.

@honeybear: ya, I think it just her rhythm, I just wish I could move it up an hour :P tried waking her up earlier for a while, but it just made for a grumpy kid and the same bedtime.

@BananaPancakes: that is actually a wonderful idea... That may just be going on her birthday wish list for the grandparents :)

@beaker: Ooh, I haven't thought of having races with her, that's a good one to try!!

@abmamma: thank you, it's only as big a problem as we make it, eh? I guess I should just think positively and enjoy the cuddles for now. Soon enough she'll be a teen and won't let me touch her, hehe

I don't have any advice to give but just wanted to say you are not alone! My DD (who will be 2 tomorrow!) is in a similar place-- up between 6:30-7:15 most days, takes a 2 hour nap in the afternoon no problem (with a few recent exceptions) and then takes an hour or so to fall asleep at night (lately it's been mostly around 8:45-9:00). She is still in a crib so we fortunately don't have to sit with her (she just rolls around and talks to herself until she falls asleep). I have been making myself crazy the last month or two trying to figure out what was wrong but am really starting to think it's just a change in her rhythms. Someone also told us it may have to do with it being summer/staying lighter later and it's messing with her circadian rhythms. As long as you think she's getting enough sleep, try not to worry (easier said than done, I know)!

I make him run laps in the backyard by playing chase, and when we walk with DS2 in the stroller we always race to the next landmark (stop sign, fir hydrant, etc). Basically I rile him up :)

We have this http://m.samsclub.com/ip/my-first-trampoline-with-enclosure-88/prod2100624 and it's amazing. And we also run laps around the house. It's too hot to run outside right now, but running indoors works, too. Also, we totally stick him on the treadmill sometimes. Ha ha.

Swimming and running around (tag, throwing a ball, net-less badminton, etc.) tire my son out. He's 3, but high-intensity activities have worked to ensure he naps decently at some point in the day since he was 2. But it sounds like she's getting 11.5-12 hours of sleep per day, so I'm not sure that you'll get her to go much longer than that (and if you do, you'll probably be wiping yourself out in the process...swimming with my son is a serious workout!). My son has pretty consistently been on a sleep routine a lot like that for about 2 years now. He fell into it naturally, and he never seems perpetually overtired, so I think it's his default rhythm.

My lo loves to push big dump trucks around the driveway. Does she have a grocery cart or stroller she can push? Thatnusually wears him out ;)

Is she generally well rested during the day? Sometimes lo wont go to bed if he is overtired. Maybe bedtime is too late? Or she is going through a separation anxiety period?

If its none of those things, maybe try shortening her nap a bit? It seems like a totally reasonable length, but so e kids need less.

LO is almost two. Most days she'll nap around noon for 1.5-2 hours. I wake her up by 7:30am, but she sometimes get up before then.

Then bedtime :( she is just not tired enough and won't go to bed until 9-9:30pm. And I have to stay in bed with her (she's got a double bed in her room).

We spend most of our day outside, on walks or at the playground. What else could I do to tire her out?

Thanks!
