@abbydabbydoodlebug: At that age my DD loved a simple printout I made with clip art showing her routine (potty, wash face, get dressed, eat breakfast, put in shoes). We didn’t do chores but I think it would work for chores.. Then you’re not assigning positive or negative to the actions, just setting expectations. For a while figuring out what needs to be done will be like a puzzle.

@bees_knees: Yeah my kid doesn't like to do anything! Lol. I have to talk her into cleaning her room after her quiet time to be able to watch a tv show. I'd like to get her started on some new chores she's never done before and she really needs motivation or she doesn't care. She seemed really excited about the idea of a chart.

@erinbaderin: Yeah, good idea building in wiggle room. I definitely want her to succeed!

We do stickers, and when you get a certain number you get a treat. I like this way better because, like you said, you don’t want one bad day or time to mean she loses the whole week. I also build some failure into it - like, if she has 12 chances to get stickers in a week say you need 10 for reward.

Does she need a rewards chart yet? I mean the idea is great in theory, but if she’s willing to help you I wouldn’t even introduce a chart! DS1 is 3y9m and truly enjoys helping me with chores—I don’t know if that’s normal tho?

If you do a chart I def agree with @gotkimchi: make it positive reinforcement vs losing privileges.

I’ve never done this but I would aim for earning rewards rather then losing privileges. The latter is sort of depressing and I think it might set up some bad dynamics

My DD is almost 4 and I want to have her start doing her own age appropriate chores. I want to get a chart for her to use, but I'm not sure how to add in a reward at the end. Like, if she misses a day that she doesn't clean up toys or make her bed, does she lose a reward at the end of the week? Or should I do it by number, like earn so many stickers and then we'll go get ice cream, movie night, cupcake, go to play gym, etc. Or should I do money for every sticker she gets?

I'm just new to this territory so I'd appreciate any ideas with it!
