You aren't late at all. I just started with the handful that I knew from other moms (all done, milk, more...) and added them as I thought of them and looked them up. I would just say the item/action and sign it at the same time, and then give it to him. I think starting at 9 months is perfect actually, since they're unlikely to actually sign back before that point I think. More is easy because you just put a little food on the tray and then sign before you give more while saying the word. Similar for all done. I do try to use it in multiple contexts so they know it isn't just foods related so after books we use one of the two etc. </p> <p>There is a baby signing group around here that I think is a franchise? He's read books about it and told me that the first that they usually understand are more, milk, and eat (in that order). So those are the ones we're focusing on now. We basically give her a few bites of solids then sign more, then give her more, then sign more, rinse, repeat. When he gives her a bottle he does the same...gives her about an ounce, signs more, etc. Before he gives her the bottle he signs milk and before I BF I sign milk.
