My OB recommended magnesium supplements. That and flax seed helped.

Sounds painful! Mine wasn't that bad, but due to taking iron supplements my entire pregnancy constipation was constant. Coffee and lots of water helped.

Miralax daily, my doctor said you can't overdose on it and it wouldn't hurt the baby. I was crying one time it hurt so bad. I also drank prune juice daily, put ground flax seed on everything, and took stool softeners. It was so bad at one point, I almost had to go to ER to have it "removed" I did anything I could to avoid that! Good luck, you are not alone!

I've been taking a magnesium supplement called "calm" for leg cramps and it's also great for sleep and poop. It's been my favorite answer to pregnancy constipation problems because it helps with other things too. Second favorite is pruns.

I'm so sorry! It is seriously just the worst, I had a similar awful experience on mother's day no less. Magnesium was a godsend. Take it at night since it may make you a bit sleepy. I took 1000mg of things were going reasonably well and up to double that if not. Certainly double check with your doctor but it was suggested by my midwife and it was better than stool softeners for me.

Are you on anti-nausea meds? I know zofran is known to cause constipation. When I was on zofran, my OB prescibed a stool softener, too.

Yes, twice actually. Once after malaria drugs and once after surgery. Talk to your doc about stool softeners. Up your liquids.

Warning, don't read if you're easily grossed out. Not sure where else to post about this tho. Anyone else have this happen?

So this morning I had horrible constipation to the point I could not walk or sit. Worse yet it was the morning of an ultrasound and I had to go to it. It was literally stuck. Finally I had to go on all fours and literally scoop it out of my butt, with my hands, while pushing as if I was in labor. It was mortifying and painful. Has anyone else had to do this? I am terrified of it happening again. And that the pushing somehow hurt the baby! It was horrible. I just needed to vent. My husband is grossed out and not wanting to hear it. :(
