I saw my naturopath for fertility issues, and one of the things we talked a lot about was my cycle (not just regulating it, but the flow, etc). Once my cycle was on track, I found my periods were MUCH easier to deal with.

A naturopath might be worth looking into. (Sorry, it won't help you for the party, though).

My doctor told me that ibuprofen decreases flow. She said I could take 600 mg every 6 hours or something like That. She swore it would work!

@bluestriped bee: I use glad rags. They're flannel and so soft. I actually use the day pads without the inserts as pantiliners since they have the wings to snap and hold in place. Just the pantiliner part alone isn't secured, so it can move around more. If I want to use them as a real pad on a lighter day, I stuff with one of the inserts. I've found them cheapest at vitacost.

I agree that a diva cup is awesome! That and maybe a cloth pantiliner in case of leaks is the most comfortable setup for me.

Long term, you might consider talking to a naturopath or acu. I found that was the best way to get my cycle 'optimized' in the most natural way. They are really big on analyzing color, quantity, consistency, etc. as indicators of overall system health.

When I first read this thread, I thought it was about breast feeding.

I don't know about how to decrease flow without talking to your doctor but there might be ways to work with your flow that's different from the usual/common methods.

Are you using tampons or pads? Have you considers using a diva cup? The idea is kinda gross but it's an actual cup that goes up there and catches everything. I have moderate to low flow but, for me, I can leave it in there for 12 hours. Much longer than tampon use. TMI if your flow is still too much, it will just leak into a backup pad or panty liner.

Oh, BTW, to save MrBee's eyes, you should add a 'TMI' to your thread title. That hopefully should save his eyes. ;)

Go to divacup's website. You can pick one up at your local whole foods store. I would see about trying it our now so you get used to it.

So. I have a super heavy period and today is the worst day of the cycle usually. We are going to DHs grandpas birthday party and I'd like to not be constantly going to the bathroom. Any way to slow this down a bit for today? Or anything I can do in my regular life to lighten it in general?

Mr. Bee: sorry if you read this!

Thanks :)
