LO was so tired she fell asleep in 5 min with no complaints. Fingers crossed tonight is as easy. I'm okay with nap time being a thing of the past. I've been thinking lately how her night time sleep would improve (read less early morning wake ups) without them. Still holding my breath. Lol.

My DS chewed holes in both of his, so we went cold turkey. He cried, but once I showed him that they were truly gone and not in our old hiding spot, he got over it pretty fast. He was 20 months though.

@sorrycharlie

I'm glad to know it can end positively. We decided to cut the tips off. And get a new toy. And naps time was awful. So hopefully by skipping nap she will be so tired tonight that she won't care and pass out.

Cold turkey is all that worked for us. If she tried to suck in a cut one, she lost her $**t. Out of sight, out of mind was the only thing that worked. We had a paciholic situation on our hands

I voted something else, I'd just ditch them all together. We had him put then in an envelope and "mail" then to younger kids. He got really attached to his a&a swaddle blankets then and held onto his blankies at night.

Thanks all for your advice.
@mauxie good point about the hole not working. I like the idea of trading up for a new item of her choice.
@reverie agree that she is older and that is a challenge. DH vetoed the pack fairy idea. Let's hope giving to the store clerk will work.

No personal experience since both of my kids never took a paci, but someone I know did something really cute to get rid of her DD's. She and her daughter packaged the paci up and sent it to the "paci man" so he could give it to a baby who needed it. And in return, the little girl got a couple of toys 🤗👍🏻

^ Yes! Going along that, could you possibly do a trade where you take the last of your paci's in a bag and exchange it for a toy of DD's choosing at the toy shop?? The clerk should be able to help you out with this and make it "real." I think that may be a better option given your LO's age/understanding :)

That is tough since at this age they have a lot more opinions.... we took away cold turkey at 18 months. It did kind of ruin our nap routine in that he had to be SUPER tired to fall asleep and has permanently shifted to a late nap. At three I'd try to reason / do the pacifier fairy or something vs. just breaking it.

For DD, I cut a tiny bit of the tip off over the course of 1+ week (never in her presence). She tried to use it for a few days, held it to sleep, and then eventually said "broken" and threw it away on her own. She was about 17 months I think and at that point only used it for nighttime sleep, so by then I had rounded up all paci's and only had 1 when it was time to wean.

I'm not sure how effective it'd be to poke holes.. Cuz they can still hold it in their mouth easily and some babies don't mind the air when sucking.

Good luck!!!

Following. My LO is the same (3 pacis to bed). The responses so far make me nervous. I was planning to cut the tips off them one by one but maybe not now...

I only have an old story, but my mom said cutting the tip off for me was the saddest thing she's ever done. I personally think cold turkey is best, replace it with a special big girl item...

It's time. Our LO must always have 3 packs in bed with her. One to suck and 2 to hold. I want to either cut the tip off or poke a hole in it (which is what the dentist recommended) so she can keep holding them. (LO is 2.9 years) TIA

Thoughts? Advice? I'm terrified.
