@Revel: I think it was working a lot better when she was deeply asleep in her RnP, since I didn't even pick her up, but now that she's in her crib, it is probably setting off a chain of wakeups!

@Foodnerd81: @mrs. tictactoe: I didn't know that! I definitely trust Isis so that's good to know. Makes sense about their deepest sleep. LO doesn't usually wake up when I dream feed her - just sucks in her sleep - but now that she's in the crib, she does stir quite a bit after I feed her.

@septca: She's 12 weeks. I do worry a little that she's in the habit of eating at that time... created by me!

I think you all have convinced me to give up the dream feed!

Edited to add: I just finished reading that Isis article & it says to not give up dream feeds cold turkey... but I kind of already did that & she seemed okay? Just woke up very hungry an hour later than usual. Do you really think I need to wean off the dream feed? If it matters, I don't give her a full feeding because I worry she'll spit up - I give her about 2 - 2.5 oz when she usually eats around 4 oz.

I never did a dream feed, I was always too afraid to wake her up, and like @Foodnerd81: @mrs. tictactoe: said, that first stretch of sleep is critical for us. Once she has one wakeup, she is up way more frequently, so if that first long stretch doesn't happen, we are in for a rough night.

Same as @Foodnerd81 I never did it because I read it wasn't good for their sleep cycle to be interrupted.

Here's a really recent article about it: http://blog.isisparenting.com/the-trouble-with-dream-feeding/

How old is she? The DF worked really well for my DD... until a certain point. There is an age (4 months, I think) that they transition to a different type of sleep (more like an adult) and the DF can stop working for some babies. In my scenario, my DD got used to getting a dream feed at 10:30/11:00, so she started waking up at that time every night and wanted to be fed before she would go back to sleep. That was a hard habit to break.

I'm no help, my LO has never been a dreamfeeder. She hates being woken up and will wake up more frequently that night. Also, she chokes when sleepy eating so there's that...

I have never done the dream feed, in part because the Isis sleep webinars usually don't recommend it. In my (nonexpert) head, it seemed to make the most sense to let her have the longest stretch of sleep that she could, and the first 3rd of the night is the deepest sleep for babies. So, I didn't want to interrupt her deepest sleep. Plus I was always afraid it would take forever for her to go back to sleep anyway!

BTW, I have been searching for the secret to her good nights of sleep since she was born. Certain things seem to help or hurt, but in general, she just seems to want to mess with me! Last night she slept 9 hours straight before waking up, eating, going right back to sleep until 8:30 this morning. It was awesome. I have NO idea what I did differently, so I'm just taking the good nights as flukes and enjoying them :)

This is related to my recent post about our RnP to crib transition. For the past month or so, I feed LO at 8:30 or 9, and put her down by 9:30-10. I have been dream feeding her at about 11:30. When she was in her RnP, she would stretch until about 5am.

When we moved her to the crib, at first she woke up before we could even dream feed. Then one night she was still sleeping at 12 so I fed her & she slept to 5:45 so I thought for sure that was the secret. But then the next night, we did a dream feed at 1130, and she was up at 1:30, 3:30, and 5:30.

Last night I was so tired I couldn't stay up to DF so I went to bed. She woke up at 1230, ate ravenously, and then slept til 4:30. This is an improvement. I'm wondering if I should quit messing with her by trying to DF & just wait for her to wake up? Or should I keep trying since it's worked for her in the past, and she's just adjusting to the crib?
