@polkadots: I loved being TG with our first, but if we have a second I think we'd find out ahead of time. I feel like it would help make the idea more real for DS if we could tell him he was getting a baby brother or sister, rather than just a more abstract baby.

Found out the first time, but not finding out this time. Thought it would be nice to try it both ways. I don't get the people who say they are planners. You are still planning for a baby, it's not like anyone is saying don't plan at all.

@leelee: This is a very good point, never thought about it this way. I am preparing myself for a girl..(found names I love, can reuse DD's things) so that makes me excited if it is. Haven't found any names for a boy or looked at buying any boy things. So I'll be happy if its a girl, and surprised if its a boy.

@polkadots: I actually have read multiple articles that suggest finding out the sex ASAP if gender disappointment is a possibility. It stated that by finding out as soon as possible you have time to grieve for not having the sex you preferred and get excited for the new arrival. Plus I guess some moms are so convinced they are having one sex and then find out it's the other at birth have breakdowns after birth due to disappointment and sudden change in hormones.

Team Green x 2 here and LOVE it!!! Hearing DH say "it's a girl!' was one of the most emotional moments of my life - not to say it wouldn't be emotional with the arrival of a new baby regardless, but nine months of anticipation, hopes, and dreams culminating in those three little words was an indescribable feeling. We are five weeks away from finding out what LO #2 is and the excitement is building!

I'm also a total planner but unless you plan on buying gender specific gear, it's really not hard to plan for a TG baby at all. We have ten newborn/0-3 month boy outfits and ten girl outfits (in addition to DD's clothes), so we will be set for the first week or so with clothes, giving us (and the grandparents!) time to go on a gender specific shopping frenzy. I'll probably order some gender specific A&A blankets as well but we have a couple of neutral ones to get us through the initial days.

It's really not hard to be TG and there are so few emotionally charged surprises left in life, I would not want to deprive myself, nor DH, of that magical moment of hearing "it's a _____!" For me, I just wouldn't get that same rush of emotion hearing an ultrasound technician say "yup, it's a ____, see the _______right here?" and then waiting another 20 weeks to actually meet the LO.

I can't recommend being TG enough! :-)

We were team green for both babies and it was worth it. To me it doesn't have to do with being a planner or not... Just being on HB kind of shows we're pretty much all planners! We were plenty prepared for both kids even without knowing their sexes!

We were team green and I loved it and would do it again. It was so much fun to hear everyone speculate by the way I was carrying or other old wives takes. It also made the last couple pushes a lot easier as I was excited to find out boy/girl.

Next time we may find out as I think DH would really like to and I made us be team green. But we will see, maybe I can convince him otherwise.

I also think for the first it is great as all out gear is neutral.

@Torchwood: I wasn't team green for the same reason, but flipped - I thought that if I was going to have any gender disappointment I'd rather deal with it during an ultrasound, not birth. I was very wrong - I felt the exact same way you did, and finding out we were having a boy hit me in an unexpected and very hard way. But if I had waited? There is no way I could have been that upset while having my gorgeous baby boy placed into my arms for the first time.

I'm torn for the second time around. I LOVE the idea of being Team Green, but am a crazy planner who LOVES designing the nursery. My husband wants to know. So what I am considering for next time is having them write it down, and then maybe a month before I'm due e-mails him two shopping lists with links - one for a boy, one for a girl. He can then look and see what we're having and buy the appropriate nursery stuff. Is that a crazy plan? Maybe, I kind of haven't discussed it with him yet. But I think something about being the only one who knows would appeal to him.

We were on Team Green and it was great for us. I had a few moments (funnily enough, right at the end of my pregnancy) where I wanted to give in, but so glad we waited because that moment when the doctor announced that we had a son was so incredibly special and something I will never forget.

The interesting part is I am completely Type A and generally need to plan everything! For some reason, I was able to rely on the fact that we would figure out the details when the baby was born- and I was ok with that.

To be honest, if we have any more children, I would be inclined to wait again :)

I'm 30 weeks and team green, and I LOVE it!!! I love people speculating, and hearing all the old wives tales about how I'm carrying and all that. I'm so looking forward to the moment my husband or midwife tells me the gender.
Also curious for those who are saying they are planners - is it just for colours? What can you not plan without knowing the gender, besides that?

I'm a planner, but am team greening this time (LO#2), anatomy scan day (was Dec 19th!) was SO hard, but I am so glad to not know this time. This is not likely our last LO, we found out with our first, it is hard, but I'd say go team green if you can just to experience both sides, having the option not to find out your babies gender is something that is such a limited opportunity you will have!
