@Mrs.Someone: @bluestriped bee: @swedishfish: @mrs. bird: Thank you!! I will call on Monday; I'm pretty sure the freezing part will have to go through their sister IVF clinic, but now I'll be researching independent banks, too! If I could find one that gives military a discount, that would be amazing. Our IUI's are costing $240, so we are okay with paying a bit more to freeze/thaw. We are both okay with me getting pregnant while he's gone; truthfully I'd rather this than a deployment later and he miss the birth or something else!

@mrs. bird: I was thinking that they should have some sort of discount for military. I wasn't sure if this was just something I thought of or if this actually exists. Glad some clinics offer military discounts.

@Kelli_Deluxe: I was just looking at info on freezing & it looks like some places have discounts for active duty military. This is the page I was looking at & it says the first year is free if you're active duty. I'm sure there are other fees, but something to look into!

I believe my RE's office charges $400 to freeze sperm. I think it's a great idea if, like @Mrs.Someone: said, you're alright going through parts of pregnancy without him around.

Yup, I think it is worth it.

At my last clinic, we would gear up for an IUI cycle (femera and trigger shot) and was just waiting on DH to bring in a sample. Due to the pressure, DH was unable to provide a sample. So we pretty much wasted the $100 on meds for a cancelled IUI cycle. Then the following month, it happened again. That's when I got aggressive and asked the RE to allow my DH to come in and freeze his sample, so at least it could be used a back up. At my old clinic, it cost $300 to freeze and store his sample until the IUI. This was temporary storage.

For my new clinic, they are a bit more expensive because they charge for freezing $206 and $100 for the thawing. (Oh, it's about the same as the last clinic). Well, since we we doing two insemination, we'll have to pay for 2 freezes and 2 thaws. So $600 more ontop of IUI costs. I did call the lab and they said if my DH's sample is good, they are able to split the sample into two vials and both be used for the 2 inseminations. So we can save about $200, I think. I guess we'll decide to do that if we are up against time and the IUI is starting soon.

Oh, my new clinic offers a year of sperm storage of $182. Which isn't that bad. My last clinic was $300-500 for a year of storage, I think. Our one friend had cancer and went ahead and froze his sperm before chemo treatments, and I heard that it was costing him $200 a month to store. That's what scared me at first when we started freezing DH's sperm, but maybe it was a ball park estimate or maybe I just didn't hear it correctly.

While freezing does add to my IUI cost, it gives me peace of mind that I will at least not have a cancelled cycle and not have to take meds unnecessarily.

I would call your clinic and see what their rates are like.

I think its a good idea, as long as you're OK with getting and being pregnant without him there. After TTC for so long, it feels like any month off is forever, so I totally understand not wanting to wait!

Alright ladies! This is a 2-part question!

My dh is in the military and we just found out he will be deploying for at least 5 months starting in May. We have been trying to conceive for 14mo, with one natural pregnancy that ended in mc. DH's sperm is decent; a bit low in count but enough to give a good count for iui. We just found out my right tube doesn't reach the ovary, so we are just working with the left side. My RE suggested doing more iui's, but now of course, we face an issue with DH not being here.

So, do you think it's worth it to freeze sperm so we don't lose another span of time? Also, does anyone have a ballpark of how much freezing sperm costs?
