I would love to be "normal" enough not to have them...having said that, I can imagine being a wreck early OB without something to hold onto. As a PP said...unfortunately great numbers don't always lead to a successful pregnancy. I'd say, if you think it will bring you some small measure of reassurance, go for it!

I was really glad I got them. I think it depends on the type of person you are. I like to have all the information. Same reason I got NT scan and blood work.

My betas were so fabulous the doctors all commented on them and I still lost the baby. So, I guess, I won't pay much attention to numbers next time. If it would help you to relax, get them, if not, maybe hold out for the ultrasound. Lots of fingers crossed for a sticky pregnancy for you

For my first pregnancy post loss I got betas in a Friday and a Monday. Also a 6.5 wk us per my request. Had a healthy baby.

For my second pregnancy post loss I didn't do betas but did have a 6.5 wk us (which was standard for this practice). 32 wks pregnant now.

@GoGoSnoGirl: Thank you! I honestly think I would rather stick my head in the sand and just go with the "no news is good news" mantra. I know that I will get hung up on the numbers and be an absolute WRECK if the numbers don't line up, and everything could still be ok. I like the link I shared with Reese. Thanks again for all your support!

@simplyfelicity: it definitely depends on your thoughts & feelings about it. I, personally, am completely data driven & found getting betas done to be very reassuring to me. The first time around I thought my numbers were on the low range of normal, but doubled, & really they may or may not have pointed to an issue. I only got 2 drawn that time, before my loss at 6w. With this pregnancy, I got 5 draws done between 12dpo (I think) & 6wks, when I had my 1st u/s. I was going to stop after 3 betas, but had a day of heavy red bleeding at 5w, so couldn't bring myself to stop. I needed to know any info that could help me understand what was happening. Whatever you choose, we are definitely keeping fingers crossed that everything is going just as it should & baby's growing! :goodluck:

I didn't have a loss, but I had a threatened miscarriage, which resulted in serial betas every 3 days for weeks and weeks. Never ever did any beta make me feel better - I just felt fear waiting, and then no relief when the results came back fine because they could always change the next day. So I do think it's a personality thing! I would never get them done again unless I had to.

i did and honestly i don't think they gave me much reassurance, even though they were good numbers. i would think to myself "well maybe they doubled but now they're on the way down... not healthy at all, i know, but that's how my brain works. :(

but if i were to get pregnant again i would probably still get them. like someone else said, if the numbers were bad it would give me a little more time to accept what was about to happen.

I did. I wanted them. Now, to be fair. My first draw was a 7 at 13 DPO, and I was a hot, hot mess. But the doubling helped :)

I did, and I was an absolute mess until after I got that reassurance. And also just want to add not doubling is ok after certain point (which was case for me since I was 5.5 weeks when I got betas)

I did them and it helped tremendously. Before my betas I was wanting to poas constantly, wondering if I was "still" pregnant. Once I had the first beta and saw a number higher than what I saw with my CP I felt so much better. But I guess it could have gone the other way too...I think you should do whatever will give you the most peace about the situation!

After 2 losses, I decided to not get them drawn for my 3rd pregnancy. Too stressful! I had my progesterone checked, but that's it. There's really nothing they can do if the numbers aren't good, and either good or bad doesn't give you a definitive answer, so I don't think it was worth the stress.

I did and I will for my next pregnancy. It made me feel so much better to see that my numbers were doubling, my progesterone was good and everything pointed to me having a normal pregnancy.

When my betas were good, it made me feel better. But the process sucks! You get one number, then you have to hem and haw for 2 days, but good numbers are worth the wait:)

When my betas were bad, it helped me to accept that things were not headed down a good road and so it kind of helped me start coping right away. The first BFP I EVER got, I was on cloud 9, and my beta came back at 11. They wanted 50 for where I was. I was shocked because I was so excited, and had already gotten attached enough, but the low beta helped me to proceed with caution. So I was not absolutely blindsided when I started bleeding the night before my next beta:(

To some, ignorance is bliss though:) And after a couple of rounds of bad betas, we went the "blissful" route with my daughter bc I couldn't take the stress of betas and that worked for us:)

With this LO, I did have betas and I was happy for the reassurance.

I did them and it made me feel much better (they doubled). If they hadn't, though, it probably would have been more anxiety-provoking. But it also would have kept me from getting attached if the numbers weren't good. For my personality type, I needed to.

Did you get betas drawn after your loss? Did you find it helpful or stress inducing? I have a referral for it and my OB said if I doubles I will have a "normal pregnancy" and if it doesn't, I won't. I don't necessarily agree with that because I know you can have great numbers and still miscarry or have slow numbers and have a healthy pregnancy. I do have a 7 week ultrasound in two weeks.
Anyway, what did you end up doing and did it help you?
