I did specify to the pharmacist that I was pregnant and she gave me a particular version (I believe it's the mercury-free version some PPs mentioned). My doc did tell me to get the shot, not the one that is like a nasal spray. Pregnant women and old people are the ones that get fatally sick every year from flu since we are immuno-compromised, so I didn't want to mess around. I got the flu (not 'stomach flu', but real respiratory flu) in 2006 (when I didn't get the shot) and i was out sick from work with 102.9 fever for an entire calendar week. I feel like its the smartest choice to get a flu shot even though I've never got one. I already had some sort of flu (think stomach flu) on Thanksgiving so I'd rather be safe than sorry. The only times I haven't had it done are when I had a cold during the week of our shot and they wouldn't give it to me. I actually get it every year (provided by my employer) ever since the year I didn't get it, got the flu, and felt like absolute death for a full week.</p> <p>I tend to be pretty crunchy granola about a LOT of things, but I am very pro-vaccinations.</p> <p>While I think people are welcome to come to their own conclusions on most things, I would be VERY wary of anything you read that draws a link between vaccinations and autism. Serious cases of influenza can be fatal. Influenza is a nasty, nasty bug. Real influenza will generally lay you up with a 102 degree fever for 3-4 days and fatigue will last 3-4 weeks following infection. Influenza is a respiratory infection, which if severe enough can lead to bronchitis and pneumonia. It's not something that keeps you out of work for 2 days, you'll be sick much longer. And being pregnant, this is obviously not good for your baby.</p> <p>Of course, make your own choices, but as pregnant ladies, we are more susceptible to it. Influenza has been linked to premature delivery.
