We had a party for 1, but nothing huge for 2 and 3. Each time there was cake and presents, but not a thing with invited guests. Maybe next year, we'll see.

We skipped the party and don't regret it a bit. We did a family activity and had a cake and bought her a few small gifts. She was just happy we sang happy birthday to her. A few close friends brought over gifts too which was really sweet.

Anyways, just voting to say we skipped to save the money (and the stress) and we don't regret it at all.

Do you really need the money? I voted she won't know the difference, since it is a little late, but I think a party is completely doable if you don't need the money for something else. 5 months pregnant is one of the most comfortable times in pregnancy for most people...I think. Unless you still have MS or you are having a rough pregnancy.

I wouldn't do a full-on party (like you said, expenses add up quick), but I would just go to the zoo with family like others suggested. We're only doing a 1st birthday party and skipping all other "parties" until they're school aged.

@locavore_mama: throwing a party at 5 months pregnant...totally doable! ;)

G wants to party with his buddy(hopefully no puking next time they party)! Seriously though, so what's best for your family. If that's a small 'party' just the 3 of you, then so be it!

I'll be 5 months pregnant also when my son turns 2 and was thinking no party. But now it's getting close (Feb 1) and I decided last night to do a low-key space-themed party with just family and close friends. We do a weekly Sunday family dinner anyway so what's a few more people?

But really at 2 all they care about is singing the birthday song and eating cake, right? Nice & simple.

I was in the same place this fall. I decided to do a party and while it was fun, I wish we had done something smaller. (We did it at a play gym, paid for many kids that didn't show up.. should have just done it at a restaurant with games or something).
Until he has friends of his own, I'm going to try to remind myself not to go overboard. Try.

I don't think I can give you a good response, haha. I'm all for the FIRST birthday party, but after that, I don't plan to throw a party for Xander until he's old enough to want one and have his own set of friends. So I'd skip it! But I'm planning on skipping it anyway... so I'm biased, haha.

Please help me decide because I can't make up my mind!

At first I was thinking no party for LO's 2nd birthday. Reason being I'll be 5 months pregnant. It probably makes sense to save the money since we have a new baby coming.

I did a really good job of convincing DH we shouldn't throw a party. So now he's thinking parties only for 1, 3, 5, etc...

But now I'm having second thoughts. LOL Shocker.

Really, I won't be that uncomfortable at 5 months pregnant. And it's kinda lame to not throw her a party because of #2. She LOVES Daniel Tiger right now. How fun would a Daniel Tiger Party at the ZOO be?!?! But that can become $$$ pretty fast......although doing it outside will save us a lot of set up and clean up time!
And we would invite her daycare friends and she will have SO much fun!

Either which way I'm still thinking we'll take her birthday (Monday) off and celebrate as a family. I'm thinking if no party we'll go to the zoo or indoor water park.

What say you, hive. Party or no party?
