Update:

The test line was absent yet again on the OPK the afternoon of my initial post. But as I continue to temp I can now see a nice dip followed by an increase in temperatures, and this morning's was the highest I have recorded yet by some margin. I might have actually O'd! I'm hoping this trend will continue.

Seeing evidence of something happening has cured my urge to POAS for now, but don't hold me to that in a couple of weeks. Wheeeee!

@Lately: Sounds to me like you're about to O! For HPTs, any second line at all (even a squinter) is a positive, but for OPKs, you want the test line to be as dark or darker than the control line. Just coming off BCP you could have a really long cycle, or even a couple annovulatory cycles while you're body is figuring things out.

ETA: I love temping for the science experiment aspect of it too, haha

Wow, you guys are fast (and awesome).

I started temping consistently at CD19 because, yes, I was dying to know what my body was up to. I am my own greatest science experiment. I do plan on continuing with that because I find it's fairly easy to do.

I'm kind of tempted to try the OPK for a while in case I haven't actually O'd yet, which is entirely possible. That pink line yesterday reminded me of that. Then again, I could be just before or just after. Or nowhere near. Who knows at this point.

Maybe I'll try one more HPT for fun (who can resist the possibility of a Valentine's Day surprise BFP?), and then just temp (and BD recreationally) until AF arrives or it appears nothing is happening within a reasonable timeframe.

Thanks for all your great suggestions!

I'm with @Foodnerd81. My first cycle post-BC was 40 days. Around the mid-20s mark, I started POAS every week, "just in case" and then AF came.

Agreed - I'd wait this cycle out and start fresh next time. My first cycle was kind of haphazard too, a bit of temping, a couple days of dollar store OPKs (all negative), random BDing - BFN.

Month 2 I got my act together, purchased the more expensive digital OPKs, temped every day, monitored my CM more closely and timed BDing around my OPKs...BFP! Good luck!

You could try a pregnancy test tomorrow just for fun, but I don't think there's much point in doing anything else. I'd give up on temping and start again at the beginning of next cycle. Also, are you using a basal thermometer that goes to 100th of a degree (like 98.01)? Temps using have some degree of jumping around, and usually if they're static, it means you're not using a sensitive enough thermometer.

I also wouldn't bother with the OPKs at this point. If you haven't O'd by CD27 it's possible you still could, but it just be an anovulatory cycle. I would wait another week or 2 and then contact your doctor if no AF and no positive pregnancy test. They can have you do a blood test that will confirm O, and if not can give you provera to induce a period. No point in waiting around forever if it is anovulatory.

I would wait a day or two and take a pregnancy test, if it's negative then wait it out until AF shows (hopefully not) and if after another 2 days no signs of AF, then test again. You could get busy just in case you are Oing ;)

if you got a clearly positive-ish opk and a clearly negative hpt, i would think you are probably gearing up to ovulate now, or possibly already have. have you been temping throughout the cycle? did you get a shift at CD13?

I have never used OPKs, so I really can't give you any advice on that one, but I will say the first cycle off BCP is usually pretty wonky. At this point, I would probably not do anything but take a cheapo HPT every week or so (or more, if you are going out and want to have some drinks) until you get your first period (or BFP).

I went off the pill a few months before we started trying, and I started temping right away, because I cannot stand not knowing what's going on. It sounds like you might like to know a lot about it too, so I recommend temping more regularly as soon as you get your period. That is, unless you don't get your period for 9 months + :)

This might help!
http://www.peeonastick.com/opkhpt.html

Since you're maybe around 13dpo, i'd take another pregnancy test tomorrow, and then maybe just wait for AF. WIth no reliable temps and no positive OPK, it's hard to know if you've Od already or not. ETA: You know that already - so I'd just wait for AF and then start fresh next cycle with temping reliably and start using OPKs every day on CD10 until they turn positive.

Please bear with me, this is all very new to me. I need some advice from some friendly POAS fans, and from my lurking in the past week I think I've come to the right place :)

This is my first cycle ttc (trying for #1), after 12.5 years on BCP. At first I was going to wing it for a bit, but then I decided I might as well start monitoring things. Can't be too careful considering I'm already mid-30s.

I suspected I might have O'd around CD13, based on anecdotal signs (CP/CM, tiny bit of random, unprovoked momentary spotting). Since then (now CD26) I have had the standard range of post-BCP/PMS/pseudo-pregnancy symptoms. Ridiculously optimistic, I know, and I take it with a grain of salt.

Now here's the mystifying part. At some random point just after CD13, I bought and used a dollar store OPK just to try it out. There was no test line at all. Not even anything remotely squint-worthy. Some online research told me that some women never get a positive or even any kind of line on an OPK, so I gave it up. I started temping shortly after that, and my levels have been fairly even, but of course I have no way of knowing if they are pre-O or post-O for me.

Yesterday afternoon (CD25) I felt some menstrual-type cramps, which are standard for me. I even went to the bathroom and checked, but there was nothing. Just for kicks-and because they were hanging around and seemingly doing me no good-I decided to use an OPK. This time I had a clear-as-day test line, but definitely not nearly as dark as the control.

Figuring my pee might have been nice and concentrated, I put some from the same sample on a dollar store HPT. Nada.

I'm not looking for an answer as to whether I'm pregnant or whether I O'd, because I know it's impossible to tell. I'm just wondering what to do now. Do I continue with the OPK and see what happens? Do I use an FRER tomorrow morning (CD27) just for fun? (Yes, I can handle a negative.) Or do I just stick with temping for now?

What do I pee on next and when?

Thanks for all your input!
