I think 2 is old enough for her to be able to say if her tummy hurts or if she nots feeling well, I would leave her and see what you think when you pick her up.

I think its nice when they call but I wouldn't feel obligated to go get her. If my daughter is having a rough day and I have a free day at work, sometimes I will go get her early from daycare just to give her a break.

@Mrs. Bee: aww! Yeah, she normally eats a lot so when she doesn't they tend to assume that something is wrong!

I think if she doesnt have a fever you dont have to go pick her up especially since she is 2 years old and can talk and vocalize if she doesnt feel well.

Hmmmm. If she doesn't have a fever and doesn't seem fussy or anything, I would just leave her there. Some daycares seem quick to pick up the phone so that they have to watch one less child!

our daycare only calls if charlie has a fever. if they called every time he didn't eat, i'd be going to pick him up all the time!

@LivsMama: @chopsuey119: @TurtleDoves: @purrpletulips: Thanks for the input ladies. I did go to pick her up early once when she wasn't eating but she was only a baby. However, by the time I got there (over an hour commute) she was FINE so I don't want to make that mistake again! I think the reaction varies depending on the particular care giver. Some of them don't want to bother you and others can't wait to call you (so it seems).

My daycare doesn't usually call unless there are at least 2 "symptoms" such as refusing to eat and a fever. If something seems off with DD they don't call but document it either on her daily sheet or a separate observation report. I would say unless they tell you that you have to come get her (I sometimes ask when they do call what the protocol is since it can sometimes take DH and I between 45-60min to get from work to the daycare) don't feel obligated just because they called. They may just be calling to let you know she is acting unusual. We got a call once when DD had some unusual discharge and they wanted to let me know before I picked her up/saw the observation report in case I wanted to call and schedule a doctor appointment.

She may not want to eat her lunch (but as my DD often does) wakes up from nap starving and will eat two portions at snack time.

I think it's their job just to call and let you know but no, I wouldn't get her. 1. It'll teach the child that whenever they're the tiniest bit upset that you'll go get them. 2. It's their job to take care of her until you're off work. And yeah....she's 2...sometimes she won't wanna eat her lunch. I think that's normal

I would just wait to pick her up at the end of the day. Take something for her to drink in case she's thirsty!

We have a nanny, but IMO, Im with you. Even my 1 year old occasionally skips a meal when shes teething or too busy to be bothered or whatever. If she isnt blatantly sick (no fever, symptoms, etc) you shouldnt be expected to pick up and leave

It's so difficult to deal with these scenarios when daycare calls and says we don't know what's wrong with your daughter, she has no fever, seems OK, but isn't eating or drinking. If she's not obviously sick, I don't feel like I should be expected to drop what I'm doing at work and rush over there but I feel like this is the expectation. She is also 2 so I feel like it's fine if she doesn't feel like eating her lunch.

Has this ever happened to you? What would you do?
