I don't have experience with IVF, but breastfeeding did affect my cycles and my ability to get pregnant, so I can see why your doctor would want you to stop first. But I agree with the others about continuing until your LO is one year and then decide. You're almost there already! <3

I weaned at a year and started the FET process a few months later. I wanted to feel like I had my body back for a little bit before jumping back in!

This was a factor in me deciding to stop at 12 months (although he self-weaned before then at 11 months). I would think your decision would be related to your age and specific issues.

@derevival: 6 months waiting. We started at 4 months. I wouldn't give up something for a chance. By 2 I was pretty well over nursing even though I missed it. It took us another year and another avenue but I am currently nursing my second magic baby. They are 4 years apart and I am loving it. My first is so loving and helpful and independent. So there is hope for you.

@brownie: Yes! This! I'm not sure how I feel about weaning knowing that it may be for "nothing." After you weaned, how long did the office make you wait before you started your meds/the process again?

I think waiting until she's a year old to decide is the best decision. I really don't want to give it up.

It is so hard. I weaned my son at 2 so we could do our fet. It failed and I was sad I weaned. At the same time with the cost and investment I couldn't take the risk of it being an issue. So very hard choices.

No experience in terms of the IVF, but my son self weaned at 10 months (I know that many people don't believe this is possible, but it was for us). I was totally at peace with it beause I totally let my son make the call. If you think you'll be upset by it or your little one would be, I'd wait, unless you are very concerned about your age, or had repeated failures with IVF last time, etc - basically unless there were significant extenuating circumstances I probably would wait until at least a year, if that was your breastfeeding goal.

@derevival: personally I'd wait until you are ready to wean. You aren't that far off from your LO being 1.

Personally I'd wIt until you want to stop breastfeeding. But I will also say it's hard to stop whether it's before age 1 or after...maybe give yourself 3 months and see how you feel. You might be totally ready by then.

We met with the doctor today who confirmed I need to stop breastfeeding in order to start the process of a FET. My LO is 9 months old and is not even close to weaning. I am struggling with making this decision, not sure where to even start. Does anyone have experience with this? What was your thought process? Anything I should be thinking about?
