I borrowed a mamaroo for DS1 but he hated it. He mostly napped in the rocknplay. I got a fisher price swing for DS2 and he liked it. He was such a big baby that he put grew out of it very quickly and we stopped using it by 4 months since he needed a more peaceful spot other than the corner of the living room for naps.

I say you can totally skip it. Rock n play was more essential for us.

My first also hated the mamaroo, but my second loved it and would take his longest naps in there. I’d say get a swing, but secondhand.

It simply depends on the kid. The mamaroo was a sanity saver for us. And we scoffed at them in the store but then someone gave us a used one and it turned out to be one of our most important pieces of baby gear.

I would look for something used or a hand-me-down just to have options without spending too much. I am pregnant with twins now and am tempted to just buy a second Mamaroo but we are going to wait and see how the babies respond first before taking the plunge.

I think your baby will decide this! My first loved the swing, second didn't really care for it but went in it sometimes, and my third hates naps, period, but it sometimes works so I'm glad we have it! And if not it's a place to put her because we have a much bigger house since our last and no carpets downstairs so I needed a few baby containers...

I don't think I would have survived without a swing. DS could be in it for hours sleeping (constantly checking on him of course.) We got a space saving one that I hope #2 loves as well.

I initially didn’t want a giant swing. I was so against the look and size of it (we live in a smaller space)
Fast forward to 10 pm on the way home from a picnic, baby hadn’t been sleeping in what seemed like years, we stopped at a babies r us and came home with a fp snug a something. Bunny maybe?
Damn, if that thing didn’t change our lives 24 hours later
TBH, our second sleeps in it at night instead of the rock n play. Yeah yeah not approved for night sleeep whatever. Neither is the rnp or the dock a tot. We love it. It’s a ride or die baby item. But it is hideous to look at and listen to.
ETA: my LO2 is 6 weeks now. I don’t even turn the swing on at night. He likes the incline of the swing seat, and he seems to not get as hot in it. The rock n play just pisses him off

Our Snugabunny swing has been a lifesaver for both girls and has held up for 3.5 years so far (only about 1.5 years of use though - the rest in storage). I can't imagine not using it - it's the only way we got her to nap most days (other than me holding her, and I need a break!)

LO1 didn't love this swing, but I love it's compact nature and how I could easily move it room to room. I think it was a Fisher-Price space saver swing?

I ended up getting a swing second hand for my first and it was a life saver. I will definitely use it for #2 due in May because there is no way I can hold #2 all day when I have #1 who is still a baby herself.

I expected to use it a lot more with LO2, but she wasn’t a big fan. I ended up just giving it to our nanny, in perfect condition, because I saw there were a ton listed for cheap on the local sites. I really wish the baby had liked it more; it would have helped!

I’m due in March with #2. We didn’t have a swing for LO1. I am waiting for now. If we decide we want one I will probably look for a gently used one at a nice consignment shop nearby.

This is so dependent on the baby. That being said, both of my kids LOVED!!!!! the swing and it was an absolute lifesaver for the first 6 months. They would both take long luxurious naps in it, which meant I could take long luxurious naps (much needed since neither of them slept through the night until after one). We had the Fisher Price Snuggabunny swing and it was worth every cent we paid for that sucker.

What about this? It is dual purpose - the seat pulls right off, into a 'bouncer' I loved ours. DD hated the swing for the first month, but napped well in the bouncer seat. It has a small footprint, is dual purpose and can be battery operated! I would say that we used it equally as a baby bouncer and as a swing.

This obviously depends on the baby but we used it a ton with DD. She took all her naps in it for the few couple months and then we still used it periodically until she was around 6 months old.

We had the Fisher Price swing which is cheaper than the Mamaroo but also takes up more space.

DS wasn't a huge fan of the swing and it didn't get much use (thankfully it was purchased second hand from friends). He spent more time in the Rock 'n' Play for naps and a bouncy seat when he was awake.

Neither of my kids ever liked the swing much, but we got a lot of use out of a little bouncy seat that vibrates and had some toys dangling in front of it (I put the bar with the toys on later when they were a bit older). Can you wait and see if you need the swing before buying? Or even better, borrow from a friend?

I did for LO2 and he spent more time in it just out of necessity. He liked it more than LO1 did but that could have also been a direct result of him being in it more often. We used it for the first 4 months somewhat regularly.

So I think you should swing

I am due this year with my 2nd baby in September. I am just starting to go over all the baby gear I stashed away in the attic. I had the mama roo with my first, but he hated it. I ended up selling it when he was about 3-4 months and never looked back. I am trying to decide if I need to get a swing or not for this baby. My first was basically sleeping or held until he was able to sit up. I don't think this will be possible with # 2.

Therefore, do I swing or not???
