@Pollywog: @cake2017: My shifts are basically two weeks of days, then two weeks of afternoons. His solid intake isn’t very good right now. (That’s another issue we are working on). I nurse 4-5times a day. I’m worried he won’t take to the straw cup well when I’m gone, but I know he knows how to get the liquid out.

I agree with the pp. I do shift work as well but i pump too. My supply has decreased quite a bit but LO still nurses when I get home. I also supplement with formula. He takes some solids too but primarily milk for now.

Do what is easier and best for you. Transitioning will take time either way so Ibwould see what works best. Like the pp stated you can nurse at home on your off times... I nurse at night with my little supply. I know a lot of co workers who stopped pumping and still nurse from time to time so I think it depends. If you don’t want to wean I think you would possibly be okay....

What are your shifts like? 3 12s? Overnights? How is his solids intake? How many times a day does he nurse?

By a year the kid doesn't need milk, it's just extra. So I would probably not wean. I'd up his solids if he isn't drinking milk on his daycare days and I'd nurse him like usual at home. If you are only nursing a few times a day your supply should be fine. And definitely a straw or munchkin, 360 cup, not a bottle. By this age he will get it quickly

Hi all! I go back to work in about six weeks, LO will be approx 12m. At first, I decided I wasn’t going to wean from BF and just have whoever is caring for him give him milk in a sippy cup or bottle and nurse when I’m with him... but I do shift work and keep second guessing my decision bc I’m worried he won’t adjust well to a sippy cup or bottle. I’ve been giving him a sippy cup with water for practice... my other thought is that I’ll probably end up drying up anyway since I do shift work so should I just wean him to make the transition easier for him? I know this decision is a matter of preference, there’s just many factors I’m thinking about. If I could continue to BF knowing he’d adjust well I’d keep doing it... is giving him water in a sippy cup enough practice? He does know how to drink from the straw cup but never drinks big amounts of water. Should I try a bottle instead or is that going backwards? Or should I consider weaning so I can help him myself with the transition and it’s not as stressful for him? TIA!!!!
