We're down to one nap now so our play times are between 8.30 (when we arrive at L's house) and 11am (lunch). Nap is from about 11.30 to 2.30 (or at least that's the plan, we're not quite there yet) then we have snack and more play. Both girls (16 and 14 months) do really well playing with the toys but we doa lot of reading and some singing too. It helps they have each other and a dog to play with but they never seem.bored. We go to a drop-in playgroup a few times a week too. I think when it warms up a bit nd you can get him outside a bit more it will make a huge difference. Oh, we go to the aquarium too, especially if I'm feeling off colour as they still get lots of stimulation but I don't need to run after them :) I think their favourite thing to do is the drop-in. Do you have anything like that near you?

@mrsjyw: I thought this had some good ideas: http://www.todaysthebestday.com/daily-activites-one-year-old/ Sometimes we forget how fun the simple things like bubbles can be. :)

I would say outside time? Just a walk or just checking out things together in the neighborhood would be cool.

And play dates if you have kids in the neighborhood.

With our daycare they do arts and crafts (drawing) every day which I love. Daycare even does hand prints but that gets messy so I don't know if your mom is up for it. Sidewalk chalk is a huge hit when we were closer to 2.

Other than that, singing and dancing? And start talking/teaching about colors? shapes?

You could try some more sensory activities like play dough (with close supervision)?

we just get out as much as we possibly can no matter how cold. and olive does pretty much everything charlie does because she has no choice. but she got to experience a lot more than charlie at a younger age so it was good for her! :)

it's tough when they're on two naps though to do big things like going to the museum, which we do a couple times a month. you could look into local sing-a-longs and activities like that. they are usually cheap or free and a good way to kill an hour!

We ended up buying a small sensory table from Lakeshore. I fill it with water, (sometimes I'll put "icebergs" in it, sand, rice...pretty much any non-choking-hazard stuff that feels interesting. If it's messy, I just do it in the garage!

I've started spreading out shower curtain liners and letting them get some real practice with spoons/utensils.

Kitchen stuff keeps them pretty interested, as well. Pots and pans, colanders, etc.

GL! I honestly think it will be a lot easier when they drop their first nap. Seems like a lot of child-friendly activities (storytime, community center playtime, etc) happens during morning nap :-(

DS is 17 months. We do a lot of playing outside (him digging in the dirt, going down the slide, etc). We take walks to the park. We also do storytimes 2 days a week in the mornings.

If we're at home playing inside he has puzzles that we do, we read books and we do a lot of random activities. We do finger painting, color and do a bunch of sensory activities. I just search them on Pinterest and come up with lots of ideas!

My LO loves to "sort" things. So we have various containers of things that he can dump out and put back in the container. Or build with.... Blocks and building have been a big thing lately, and he's getting more into mega blocks... But containers of stuff is a seriously fun activity for him. Ha!

We go to the zoo, library, music class, picnics in the park, children's museum, etc. At home we will paint, bake, read, or just play. I'm a big believer in kids learning through play.

I used to go over the ABC's with LO sometimes, but not often enough for her to learn it. Then one day she just sang the entire ABC song. Then I realize we sing it at music, so she gets more out of that stuff then I realize. Plus I do a lot of counting, looking at shapes, etc. with her while we're playing.

DS is just past 15 months old.

His typical day when I'm at work looks like this:

breakfast
playtime
nap
lunch
playtime
nap
dinner with us
playtime
bath time
storytime
bed

during playtime, he has two different play areas with different puzzles/books/musical instruments/toys/ride on toys. we've recently added in coloring books/crayons, stickers, and sometimes a quick walk or playtime outside (it's been freeeezing otherwise).

during the wknd, the playtimes are filled with visiting grandparents (ils), swim class, gymboree (1x during the wk), church, running errands, etc.

he does get screentime with an ipad on the days my mom watches him about 15/20 min a day.

i know he's too young for any workbooks or such, but i feel like i need to do more than just "play time"

what do you fill your toddler play time with?
