@Silva: I thought about doing shaving cream! Will try that next.

LO's Age: 12.5 months
The Good: had everything on hand, easy to put together. She liked playing with it and smiled when I wrote letters in the goop.
The Bad: we don't have a window for her to stand at so she had to stand on our couch. This distracted her from the actual bag as she wanted to run on the couch. I didn't have aloe or gel so I used other colored creams but they were too heavy and kept settling to the bottom of the bag. She tried to take the bag off the window so I would do all 4 sides next time.
The Ugly: none, I would try this again!

I did do the activity last week. I only made one and it probably needed more gel. I only had aloe vera gel so I didn't want to waste too much of it. He enjoyed it for about 2 minutes and moved on. lol I left it up but he didn't really pay much attention to it. I think I had more fun playing with it. ;)

My LO is only 9 months old- I just filled a zip lock with some shaving cream and let her play. Kept her interest for like 10 minutes, which is pretty good, but she did manage to gnaw a small hole in it :)
It made the bag kind of fluffy, so she liked squishing it and shaking it and tossing it.
Thanks for the inspiration!

LO's age: 13.5 months
The Good: While it didn't hold her attention for very long at once, she kept coming back to play with it again. I've left it up on the window for now.
The Bad: I ended up having to make it twice (see below) and the second time I used pearly nonpareils. They made the gel all cloudy as she swirled them around.
The Ugly: I don't know whether it's DD or me, but one of us needs a manicure. Only a few seconds in, our bag sprung a leak and both of us had food coloring and gel on our hands. I moved the gel into a new bag, but it was a mess.

@photojane: She looks totally interested - even if it was for a short time! The nice thing is that even if you take it down, you can put it back up again later - just re-tape.

LO's Age: 11.5 months
The Good: Sadie's very hands-on & curious... she loves to touch, feel, investigate everything, so this was right up her alley. We used gel food coloring + hair gel, and the effect was really neat!
The Bad: She only played with it for a few minutes. I expected this since she's got a short attention span. If it was on a window instead of our storm door, I'd leave it up so that she could come/go & play with it through out the day.
The Ugly: I used painters tape, so it kept falling off when she pulled on it!

I don't know what this says about me, but I really enjoyed playing with it! The colors were pretty! :silly:

LO's Age: 25 months
The Good: easy, had all the materials on hand (I used aloe vera)
The Bad: didn't really hold his attention very long. I may add some more gel to make it more squishy.

I love the idea of this thread. I'm not creative enough to come up with this on my own and I am constantly looking for something that I or the babysitter can do with him. Looking forward to trying other activities.

@photojane: Heck yes she is included in this- I chose this one because it would be good for some of the younger ones as well. Also, if they don't end up liking it, it is still fun to play with as an adult, lol.

@rawrasaur: I'm not sure if Sadie's considered a toddler since she's not quite 1, but I'm still going to give it a shot when she wakes up from her nap! She has a super short attention span, so we'll see how it goes.

We tried this yesterday evening after I picked up LO from daycare. I saw the post and we had about 30 minutes to burn, so I figured we'd give it a shot!

LO's age: 15 months
The Good: She sat on the counter while I filled the bags and was so excited. I taped them to the glass door and she immediately starting poking/squeezing the baggie. She actually loved the tape more than the bag, and kept trying to unwind the tape roll. So I started taping small pieces of tape around the bag and she had fun peeling those off the window and taping them to the baggie :)

The Bad: Well, I didn't exactly have all the ingredients. No hair gel, so I just used water. I put in the coloring drops and added some glitter inside. It still worked well, but wasn't squishy so all we could do was splash the water around. I need to get some hair gel for next time.

The Ugly: DH came home from work and saw us playing with the baggie. He said "why is she playing with her pee in a bag taped to the window?". LOL! I didn't even think about it, but I used yellow food coloring and apparently it looked like pee when he first saw it. Oh well - she enjoyed it!

Thanks for the fun idea, looking forward to upcoming activities and I'd be happy to volunteer too!

We had some time to kill before lunch and all of the supplies on hand when I saw this post so we did it today! I made some sensory bags like this when he was about 6 months but u thought it would be fun to see how he'd react now.

LO's age: Almost 16 months
The Good: He helped me make the bags and he got really excited about them as I assembled them. He loved trying to identify the different colors (I made a blue one and a red one). I added some decorative stones that I had on hand into them and he liked being able to feel them through the gel. He kept telling me "Brrrrr" because the gel was cold. He also went back and played with them later on his own. He even pulled one off of the window and brought it into the kitchen (where I was) because he wanted to stick it on the fridge.

The Bad: Its my fault because I added the pebbles but they were distracting and he really wanted them out of the bags. We ended up just sorting pebbles into buckets after a few minutes haha.

The Ugly: His tantrum when he couldn't get the bag open (I taped them) woke up his sister lol.

@rawrasaur: @T.H.O.U.: interesting. We tried a gel bag a few months ago and she didn't want anything to do with it. After seeing the link to the toy, it might be fun to add some small fish or something (a top to a cup even, if nothing else) to this bag.

Pro-tip: If you have a teether, you might want to tape down both the top and bottom or reinforce the edges with tape.
