I keep meaning to make time to do this. It will probably end up being when the weather isn't being bipolar.

I'm bookmarking these ideas for the summer! It's so cold here that I can't have her in just a diaper, even indoors! I did do the colored ice cubes with her last summer. She was a little small, but I bet she'd love it now!

@Running Elley: did the chalk paint today!

He enjoyed it. I don't think he got the concept. He liked to dip the brushes in the paint and stir. He spilled 2 of the cups not even 30 seconds into it. I filled them up with a little water and then he ended up dumping it on himself. Lol he mostly enjoyed running around with the brush and cups.

@scg00387: LOL sorry!!! At first I just assumed that people in the colder areas could still paint outside but once I thought more about it it seemed less likely. Oops!!

I don't have a toddler but the sidewalk chalk painting is a great idea and looks like so much fun. Is it bad I want to try it?! ;) My inner artist is coming out! I'll definitely be trying that one with DS when he is old enough!

And for the ice cubes...

The Good: He LOVED this. The whole time he was giggling. He had a complete blast. It was also really easy to set up.
The Bad: He got pretty wet. Also, the activity can only really last until the ice cubes melt. For us it was about 10 minutes.
The Ugly: The whole bucket of water got dumped onto my kitchen floor.

Toddler's Age: 16.5 months
The Good: This activity kept him occupied for a loooong time- 45 minutes +. I gave him various kinds of paintbrushes and he experimented with all of them. He used all the paint and asked for more so I just added more water to the cups so he could keep playing. It also washes off/out easily.
The Bad: I don't think it's necessarily bad but its a pretty messy project.
The Ugly: Eventually he wanted to experiment with painting on mommy lol.

Sidewalk Chalk Painting

-Mix together 2T water, 2T cornstarch and 5 drops food coloring
-Provide paintbrushes in an outdoor area where your toddler can paint on the ground (sidewalk, driveway, patio, etc)

And because I know the weather isn't conducive to playing outside in some areas here's an alternate activity!
Colored Ice Cubes
-Fill Ice cube tray with water. Add a drop of food coloring to
the cubes. Freeze!
-When cubes are set/frozen set up an area for your toddler to
play with them. I filled a clear bucket with water, put the ice
cubes in the water and set it on the kitchen floor on top of a
large beach towel. Then I gave Elliot some spoons to play with
them as well.
