My son got staples on his head last year when he was 2.5. He was totally fine after. I gave him Advil that night and he was nervous about me taking his shirt off at first so I was super careful. But he never complained about it!

ETA: they didn't numb him or anything. Swaddled him and held him down and stapled. He obviously freaked out. But was fine within a minute after and wanted to get the hell home.

Go, unless you're told she's at a high risk of infection for some reason. DD1 split her chin when she was around three, and required a number of internal and external stitches. She was surprisingly SUCH a trooper (she's typically pretty emotional/dramatic), and was acting like herself by the next day. Same thing when DD2 broke her arm this summer. She was timid and clingy for awhile, but bounced back quickly.

Hugs to you - honestly, I think these things are harder on the parents than the kids.

Thanks everyone - this makes me feel better!

@HappyBaker: Thanks for the heads up! She's in bed now with it glued + a light bandage. I'll check on her occasionally to make sure it hasn't busted open.

My daughter had 8 stitches in her forehead this past spring, she was 4.5. She complained that night but not cause of the stitches - she also had a massive egg in the same spot.

As they dissolved they itched but she was back to normal the next day.

LO got a few stitches under his lower lip when he was just over 2. I think we did some ibuprofen for the first few days just in case he was in pain. But he acted totally unphased.

DD just got 5 stitches in her arm a few weeks ago - she's older (just turned 5) but I could not believe how she did not even complain once about her arm hurting. I think kids just bounce back so much faster than we do! They put a numbing gel on her arm before stitching it and she really couldn't feel them doing it at all - that part went much better than I thought it would. I let her watch something on my phone while they were doing it so she was distracted.

I'd definitely still go on your trip since its quite a few days away - DD only had her stitches in for a week.

One question - are you sending her to bed with it glued? We had glued DD's arm and it split back open a few hours later - so it might be worth checking on her throughout the night if you aren't taking her in tonight!

Good luck!

DD had an accident tonight and will likely need a few stitches on her forehead (it's glued for now). Has anyone else's toddler gotten stitches before? How did they act during and a few days later? DH and I are supposed to leave for a trip on Friday and I'm questioning whether we should still go and not sure if that's ridiculous
