we use the same FP booster --- even if he were able to somehow unclick the buckle, i dont think my LO would be able to climb up because there is not much space when the tray is clicked in (and there is no way he could take the tray off himself). we use the tray every time, because we sit at a counter height island for our meals :)

it works for us! :)

@Mrs. Pen: we use the same booster @locavore_mama uses and we don't use the buckle. We put her in it and push her into the table. She can't get out because she can't push away from the table.

@Mrs. Pen: I think the buckle on the booster will be harder for him then. He would need to use his thumb and finger to simultaneously apply pressure to to get it off. I don't think they have the dexterity for that yet!
And sometimes we use the tray and sometimes we don't. We strap to out bar stools which has a adjustable height. So sometimes the tray sits over the table and sometimes I push her fully under the table and she just uses the table.

Would a cheap booster seat work for you guys? In the last few days our daughter (22.5 months) has decided pretty decisively that she wants to sit in a grown-up chair. It's annoying b/c we have to sit with her, just in case she falls... but she is really good about sitting there and eating her food with no harnesses attached. I do have to remind her that she can't get up in the middle of her meal, but she kind of knows that drill already from daycare where their chairs also don't have any straps.

We had this same problem. Now she just sits in a regular chair with us, but we put several cushions under her so she's elevated.

@locavore_mama: I think my sister has the booster chair that J has used before. He's never tried to escape from it at her house, probably because of the attached tray. Do you seat M at the table with it or with the tray?

This is what the buckle on the chicco looks like, but without shoulder straps

We have one of those seats that attaches to a regular chair. LO gets strapped in--she can strap herself in but she can't undo the buckles or stand up. And it was inexpensive.

ETA: We have the one @locavoremama: mentioned, Fisher Price.

We switched M from the highchair to a booster seat that solved our problems, but not sure if he'll sit in it because it's easy to figure out how to unbuckle it -unless you push him all the way to the table so he can't see/reach it.

Ohhhhh, OK what about looking for a booster that has a buckle that requires the extra push button before unclicking ?

Not sure how the buckle on the Chicco is but the fp has two push levers on either side.

@Mrs. Pen: if he's standing up in a cloth chair do you think a new chair will solve the problem? Is he sitting in it unbuckled?

We have always used the Fisher price healthy deluxe booster. It's like $24 new on Amazon. Cheaper open box and you can probably find something similar on CL or used fb group for under $0.

@matador84: oh that's the problem! J can unbuckle the straps., so I'm sure he could figure it out in any other buckle in chair. So I'm thinking of maybe transitioning him to something different, but I'm not sure what.

Hmmm that's tough. If you don't want to spend a lot we have the IKEA Antilop and it's great for us. You can strap him into it so him standing up shouldn't be a problem.

We have one of those high chairs that attaches to the table. It's worked out great for us thus far but now J can unbuckle the straps and he stands in the chair. He doesn't listen at all to sit down, and I'm not only afraid of him falling from the high chair but obviously I wish to deal with the behavior issue of not listening.

Anyway- I was thinking of getting a new chair for him. Any ideas? I know many who swear by the Tripp trapp for toddlers but it's definitely out of budget. He's too short for a regular chair. Should I keep him in the attached high chair and just remain firm in trying to get him to sit down? Or should I look for a way to transition him to something else, and what?

Thanks!
