@Andrea: Regular pillow yes, covers (we have a comforter) but he kicks if off and only sleeps with his blankie. Eventually he will get used to the covers (I think.)

Awesome!! I love hearing transition tactics since we still have my DD in her crib. Does he sleep with a regular blanket and pillow in the bed?

I'm so happy we decided to put both Mavrick's crib and toddler bed in this toddler room. We knew he wasn't necessarily ready for the full transition (if we forced him) so giving him the option where to sleep helped.

Both crib and bed have been in his new room since last Thursday. We had a sick baby so I wasn't expecting him to ask to sleep in the "big boy" bed anytime soon. Well... saturday, when I said "it's bedtime" he went straight for the bed.

I think the fact that he chose what he wanted will make the transition even easier. For the first 2 nights, he would wake up at around 3 am (from coughing - still sick) and ask for his crib, which we did no problem (again his choice) BUT ... and this is HUGE, last night he lasted all night in his bed no asking for crib. YAY!!!!!!!!! 20 months and in a toddler bed. :)
