@youboots: can you box in the PNP? We pushed ours into a corner, turned a queen mattress on its side against the long way and braced it with a dresser. Then after we put him in for the night we flipped a coffee table up against the bottom and braced that with a nightstand. It was only for one night before we went home but he slept like a champ once he realized the sides were too high to climb out.

I took a pic because it was so bizarre.

Also this is what his bed looks like now.

So last night went poorly. She woke up at 4 and got stuck between the nightstand and bed while trying to reverse down. She would not go back down so DH stayed up with her and I slept. I ordered an Amazon next day delivery travel cot. Not sure what we will do tonight.

DS tried climbing out of his crib after he figured out how to climb out of his PNP in a hotel over Thanksgiving at 27 months. It really sucked bc he actually loves his crib and feeling enclosed. We pushed the PNP into a corner and blockaded it with an upturned mattress set and dresser to box him him the rest of the hotel trip and moved him to a Privacy Pop tent with a twin floor mattress when we got home. We travel with the darn thing now - we just use a twin size air mattress inside if no twin mattress is available (like if we are in a hotel). But it makes him happy and feels like his bed at home and he sleeps/naps awesome in it.

@youboots: when we go to hotels we always get a suite or something so he has his own room. We then stick pillows under the sheets to kind of keep him in the middle.

We had to do this on vacation. He climbed right out of the pack n play. He did pretty good! We switched him when we got home and said "it's like your great wolf lodge bed!" And it worked. We just transitioned his crib to a toddler bed. From then on he was fine in any bed when we travelled.. I was team crib for life but it's so easy just having him sleep in whatever bed is there when we travel.

B slept in a regular bed at 23 months when we visited my parents at Christmas, and we didn't switch him to a toddler bed for about 6 more months. We just had to sit in the room with him until he fell asleep. We made an border of pillows and rolled up blankets along the side so he wouldn't roll out.

FWIW Switching to a regular bed actually improved my crappy sleepers sleep and my great sleeper is still a great sleeper, so I would worry too much about switching beds ruining your kid 😉

Lo1 slept in a real bed while traveling several months before we converted her crib. It started when she freaked out about sleeping in a pack and play and much preferred a real bed. She spent about a month spread total over 2 trips sleeping on beds. And fwiw, when we did switch her to a toddler bed the transition was super easy

Also when we travel in a hotel should we just get a small cot for her to sleep on the ground?

She has been a fantastic sleeper so I'm not excited about any of this.

We are down at my family's Beach house for a while while some work is being done on our home and our 27 month old daughter has crawled out of the pack and play (safely) three times now. My husband thinks that we should just have her sleep in the low queen bed in the guestroom if we do this for the next week or so should we just convert her bed when we get home as well?

I was hoping to keep her in the crib as long as possible. It's just stressful to have this happen away from home where it's not as kid proof.
