@AnnabelleG: my 4 year old goes through phases like that. we have a bedtime routine of bath, story, prayer and bed and we leave music playing in her room. Once we start the routine I keep letting her which step of the routine we are on and happy many steps are left til I leave her in her room. This is kind of inspired by 3 special steps song from Agent OSO which she loves. It helps to countdown. Then I just leave her even if she is crying. I just ignore it and talk to her occassionally through the monitor

I have no advice to offer, only to say that my 2.5-year-old still has major sleep issues. Some nights he's fine, some nights he wakes up and puts himself back to sleep, some nights he wakes up and cries several times through the night and won't go back to sleep without one of us to help.

We had sleep problems like this from about ages 2.5 - 3.5, whereas it had been pretty good before that. The only words of encouragement is that it got better for us, and at 4 she is a good sleeper again. Consistency in bedtime routine and our reactions to her wake-ups (potty or drink of water were the only requests we would meet in wake-ups, no snacks, get into bed with us, etc.) Dropping the nap also helped since she was so tired at bedtime. I sympathize, the nights she woke up 3+ times, sometimes for an hour each time were rough but we seem to be past it now. Hope it gets better for you soon.

My daughter turned 3 in September. Since she moved to a toddler bed there is rarely tears because she can get out but just tonight she came out of her room 5 times before falling asleep. At the least it's once. She is up at night 1 to 3 times a night 1 to 5 times a week. 7 days a week when she's going through a really rough phase. i get so aggravated sometimes but I've learned to accept that this is life for us.

My son is very similar. I just figure this is who he is. Can't offer advice - following to see what others say!

We've struggled with our almost 2.5-year old and sleep on and off since he was born practically. We're super consistent and he goes through long stretches (months) with no problems. But here he is again, at bedtime, crying in his crib. Last night he was up at midnight and then for good at 5am. I keep wondering what we're doing wrong, or if this is just how he is. Has anyone else struggled this long with sleep? Any thoughts or words of encouragement?
